Let's see who is the heavyweight.

Although it is obvious from examining a molecule of carbon dioxide against a molecule of oxygen that CO2 wins but...

CO2=~ 12 +2(16)=44 u/mole

O2 =~ 2(16) 32 u/mole

Oxygen is O2....Carbon Dioxide is CO2

There is physically more 'stuff' with CO2 than O2. You have a Carbon atom in CO2 where you had none in O2. So, yes, it is heavier by a 'C' atom. :)

Check the periodic table. Oxygen has the mass of 15,999 and Carbon has the mass of 12,011
