How do I know when he is connected and can he access my browsing history? How can I stop this and go back to how it was before the repair?

Typically there's an icon on your task bar, next to your clock on the bottom right corner of your screen. Just right click on the icon of the program he used to "dial in" and disable it.

It's as easy as that.

If this 'friend' is snooping you, beware! When he/she worked on your stuff, they may have installed a 'keylogger' which would mean they can retrieve & look at EVERYTHING you typed.
Better get security aware & fast.
Download and run 'rootkit reveal' (google it, get the free one from 'sysinternals')
If you've got anything more than a few k (kilobytes!) out of sync with what should be there, you are compromised and if you use this system for ANY personal data store or transmit functions, you MUST re-install windows (with destructive or overwrite mode) otherwise ALL BETS ARE OFF.

He was using Remote Access software, easily done!

If he used Windows own Remote Desktop application, it would ask you for permission to allow the connection each time he tried to connect. So, if it doesn't ask, he isn't trying to get in.

There are other ways of gaining access through VNC software (That can be configured NOT to ask). If anyone has logged in using this, a dead giveaway is that your mouse cursor appears to flicker!

Hope it helps.

He probably installed a program like PC Anywhere or its equivalent. That runs if he has a password that matches your system. Either uninstall that program or change the password to something new that he doesn't know. The other way to link was if he changed your network workgroup to match his. Change it back and add a password to your network access, one that he does not know.

Well he linked it using a cable then unplug the cable.
if done remotely using software like gotomypc.com then remove the software.
if accessing your pc through the net is hacking, then file police report as it is a federal offense and is a felony is most states.

well it depends on how you connected the two machines, and what your setting are, but yes, he can see what smut you have been surfing for on the net. If you don't want him to see it, don't let him network, or remove the pornsites from you history!

a system resore would undo the changes made.
my computer > system information > system restore
just pick a time before your p.c was fixed, unless he coppied your hard drive or part of it he shouldnt be able to see your history, sounds like he enabled remote assistance on your p.c, a tool where he can control your computer from his own to resolve a tecnical issue, system restore should fix this too.

Your friend is a little know-it-all and he thinks he knows what he is doing. But in fact, he's betraying you by taking advantage of your software.

He's most likely stealing software, which is illegal.
Very illegal.

if he did that without your permission maybe he is not really your friend

its always best to assume you have no privacy when online
