No. Folic acid helps prevents birth defects such as spina bifida if you are already pregnant. But folic acid has nothing to do with helping you conceive.

Sadly, no...but it is a super-important vitamin to take prior to getting pregnant and for the 1st trimester!! Extra Folic acid is key in developing your baby's spinal cord and neurological system. It can help prevent diseases like spina bifida or worse. Try to get about 1000-1200 mcg tops. If your prenatal only has 800mcg you can take a supplement of 200-400mcg on top of that and be just fine!
If you are looking for something to boost your chances of getting pregnant, you can look to take GNC's Fertility Blend for Women which I heard great things about. The Men's Blend helped boost my husbands sperm count so the Female's I'm sure is awesome as well. i wouldnt take that in conjunction with a prenantal however...talk about vitamin overload!! :) Just use your judgement and ensure you are getting your Folic Acid.
Good luck and baby dust to you!!

no, its just a vitamin the dr would want you to take at least 3 months in advance before ttc, its mostly taking the 1st stage of pregnancy, it is use for the developing of the baby, so there can't be a birth defect.
