she keeps beging her mom to buy her thongs, but I am very strict with my two girls and think that she is not setting a good example for her younger sister.

U know your kids personality better than I do. Either she wants 2 wear them cuz they r really cumfy, or she wants 2 impress some1. I have worn them since I was 13. My mother did not mind it. But it was not 2 impress boys. I have a slight skin disorder and the lighter my clothing feels the more comfortable I am. She might want them cuz they r cute and stylish, and really they r very comfortable versus tighty whiteys. Answer this 2 yourself--------------Would u rather wear stylish boxer shorts or classic tighty whiteys. And again, u know her better than any of us. Is she really into boys and impressing her friends---or does she focus on her homework and sports (an overall good kid)? And ask her mom what she thinks, considering all possibilities. Maybe its like wanting a pair of toe socks for no reason at all (they r hot pink with green polka dots, lol) cuz u live in the desert "just because dad"

Its a pair of underwear. If you just look at this question for a minute it is silly. These underwear are not going to cause any problems with anything if you tell her not too she is probably going to go out to the store and buy a pair anyway and wear them, You may as well let her get them so that you dont find out later and get upset about it. They are actually very comfortable and they make no underwear lines which i think is worse than a thong

I wore thongs when I was 15! What are you afraid of? There are many reasons why girls wear thongs...and no it is not boys! Don't be so strict or she will go behind your back and teach her younger sister to. Getting her a thong is not going to make her into something you don't want her to be. Either she is already that way or she just wants to be like everyone else in her class.....be a cool dad.

I started wearing thongs when I was about 12- because I danced (tap, jazz, ballet, etc.) and our options were thongs or no panties at all. I chose thongs.
It isn't a sexual thing. It is about how you look in your clothes. With some pants, shorts and skirts you can see panty lines and it looks tacky- the pants and skirts don't even have to be all that tight either, sometimes it just looks better.
If you look at is as a fashion thing rather than a sexual thing it won't be that big of a deal.

I see nothing wrong with a 16 year old wearing a thong. Wearing them is fine, actually more appropriate depending on the pants she has on. I don't really think of thongs as a whore-stamp. Underwear is a personal thing. If she thinks that they will be comfortable and such, let her get them. But try not to make it a big thing....the more you say no the more she'll want them 'just cus'.

Stop viewing it as something sexual. It's not as bad as you're making it sound. Lots of girls wear thongs so that they don't have pantie lines. Plus, no one's going to see them.

If thongs are "dirty," then so are pantyhose and bras. It's underwear, for goodness sake. It's an undergarment.

I think that at 16, she should be able to choose her own underwear (I assume we're talking underwear? If we're talking bikini, that's another story!)

I made my daughter wait until she was 16 before she was allowed to buy a thong. She swears they are more comfortable -- I don't see it, but I pick my battles, and this isn't the hill I wanted to die on.

A thong does not make someone "easy" or "loose". If they are easy, their style of underwear isn't going to stop 'em. :-) Besides, I don't allow her to wear ANYTHING that shows her underwear -- thongs or "granny panties". So who's going to know or care what she's wearing underneath?

OMG I can't even believe that you're making such a big deal about it. just cuz she's 16 doesn't mean she wants gross panty lines to show. 16 is a perfect age to start wearing make up, cute clothes and yes..a thong. it doesn't mean she's having sex...there are more thing choices for underwear anyway. seriously it's no big deal. the best thing you could do is say "yea sure whatever" then make a bog deal out of the things that are actually worth fighting over.

My sister and I started wearing thongs at 15/16. My dad didn't like it but my mom didn't think it to be a big deal. It is a popular type of underware.
