Ohio State is the best engineering school in Ohio (and one of the better ones in the country). In neighboring states, the best schools are Carnegie Mellon, University of Michigan, Indiana University, Purdue and Michigan State.

Carnegie Mellon is the best one on this list and is only a four hour drive from your home.

This doesn't border Ohio, but I would take a look at MSOE or Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It's right downtown and is an excellent school.

Can't go wrong with University of Dayton's engineering program. It's nationally ranked and a very strong trait of a great academic school.
