I think its because its better to have your back more wet than your front? That and the desire to shields ones face, I would presume.

Well with global warming being a factor many people like myself duck in the event that the rain might be acid rain. It would be better for this type of rain to hit anything else besides your face. I think it's extremely important for people to duck in the rain and advise others to do so as well.

I always duck because I think the rain is really cold and I don't like it running down the back of my shirt! I know it will hit me, but if I run just right......:) lol

I think is because you want to save your face from getting hit with all that water. Also you are trying to keep it clear form water so you can see and walk without falling over something. Anyone who belives if they duck they wont get hit by water is a little slow. But everyone does it. lol

Youre cringing because the water's hitting you. The water is cold, so our instinct is to curl up. If you hunch, more of the rain will hit your shoulders and head instead of your face. Unless you are running or walking.

NO! But human nature is just that. Humans react certain ways to certain situations, ducking in the rain is one of them.

If you duck, you can prevent the raindrops from hitting your face and you can keep your eyes open and at the same time look at the ground-condition for walking or running.

Because I would much rather have rain on the back of my head than in my face.

Lol, hmm..I think it's becuase when that first drop hits your skin, it's so cold and drops so hard that you are cold, and frightened and overwelmed at the same time..so you just curl up in a ball and duck.
