Michael Mukasey has been put forward by Bush for the job of Attorney General of the US. When asked if he thought that waterboarding (simulated drowning), forced nudity, and mock excecutions of suspected terrorists was , in his opinion, Torture, he replied that he could not say if it was torture, as he hid not have any information on the matter!!!

Do you Americans want a man who can't decide on when simulated drowning, forced nudity and mock executions of a person held in captivity for up to 4 years without trial, is torture or not. Just being held in captivity for severalyears without trial is torture enough.

Come on Mukasey, common sense is all anyone needs to be able to comment on this..

Apparently -- from most polls I've seen, a good percentage of Americans don't really care about the torture issue -- and many even don't care about one branch of the govt taking over entirely.

It's sad that such a large number of Americans have no respect for the Constitution -- and that so many are willing to disregard some of its most basic principles -- but Mukasey seems to be saying what most Americans want to hear.

As to the torture issue -- if he says that those things are torture during his confirmation, then he would be required to start prosecuting 1st day on the job -- and he won't do that.

I'm disgusted at his hearings testimony. So no, I don't. I hope the judiciary committee has the spine to at least pass him to the floor without endorsement.

And Coragryph is right - the issue does not and never has "polled well". But for that matter, civil rights has never polled very highly either, whether before, during, or after the 1960s.

Mukasey pronounced "if water-boarding is torture, torture isn't constitutional." What??? that form of reaction would not augur properly for the destiny. If he thinks that waterboarding is a suitable interrogation technique then he ought to easily say so. no person that Bush nominates for the area is going to be stable because of the fact they must convey some help for his idiotic rules or they won’t be nominated. in the event that they accept as true with him then they are unacceptable. in the event that they don’t accept as true with him and say that they do, then they’re cheating. in the event that they don’t accept as true with him and say so, then they wouldn’t be nominated.
