Virginia does not require gun permits or firearm registration. In order to purchase a firearm, you must have a copy of your Virginia ID and two items that prove you are living/residing in Virginia such as your vehicle registration and a residential utility bill. Your information will be either phoned in or electronically transmitted to the Virginia State Police. If are a felon or have some other prohibition on owning a firearm, you will not be allowed to purchase a firearm and the State Police will be dispatched to the location to arrest you for attempting to purchase a firearm.

If you are looking at getting a permit to carry a concealed weapon (CCW), you must contact your local sheriff's office. They will require you to be fingerprinted.

Good luck!

Contact your local Sheriff's dept and they will tell you. If it is not up to him, contact your local Court house.
