Do you think the handling of Joe Torre's future with the club was handled with any respect, dignity or class? He was a winner, even when they gave him crap and told him to get to the series with it. If they wanted to fire him, fire him. Don't insult the intelligence of everyone and say "he rejected our offer..."

The yankees were a wild card team. The Colorado Rockies finished the season wtih a better september record, and nobody is saying they're the most talented team.

They are a very average team. Great offensively and good bull pen, but no starters.

They essentially were the 94-era Rangers team that the Yankees beat up on before going to WS.

I personally feel they gave him a very raw deal. "a change needed to be made" yeah, thats why the players, fans, etc. were all backing Torre.

houy,

maybe "crap" is a little strong, but for them to be expected to win a WS every year with sub-standard pitching is border line insane.

Mussina was a great pitcher with the Yankee's, but he got old this year. Same with Clemens. They had zero front line stuff from their starters and that killed their bullpen.

This year and last year were very flawed teams. Great bats, but no pitching really. The Yanks used to get great pitchers in their mid to late 30's....they went for old pitchers this year.

Steph's level of brainwashing is amazing. Steinbrenner has always been low-class, and no one who isn't blinded by worshiping the Yankees should be surprised by this tawdry scene. For those delusional Yankee fans who can't understand why their team is so hated, maybe now you can understand one big reason.

I will agree with Steph on one thing--Torre never started a season with crap. Some years their aging vets were injured and left Torre in a bind, but you have to balance that with the huge acquisitions they made. Mussina was a premier pitcher when they picked him up, for example. And just last year someone practically gave them Abreu in a lopsided trade because they didn't want to pay his salary any more.

I am a die hard fan... but i think what the yankee management did was pretty classy.

The reason i am saying that is....

Joe Torre gave this franchise 12 AMAZING years. Never missed the playoffs... Went to 6 out of 12 World Series... won 4... but it was clear that they needed a change.

I personally dont think that Torre was the reason they were losing but something had to be done. I disagree with you when you say they handed him crap... they were by far the most talented team. The regular season offensive stats prove that and the way they closed the season.

But they gave him the dignity, even though we all know they didnt except him to take that 1 year deal, to make it seem like he left rather than being run out of town.

In the end, it was still a better offer than every other manager in baseball... but it was time.

The handling of the Joe Torre future with club was handled with no respect or dignity. Here is a man who lead him team to 12 straight years of making the play-offs, 6 division titles & 4 World Series titles. Can you name any other manager who has these same creds as Joe. Joe is a winner & will always be a winner in my book.

After the Yankees bought swept by way of the Red Sox, I did not consider they deserved the correct to enter an over-hyped sequence with the Mets and overwhelm them. But, 2 wins is 2 wins, so we will take them. Besides, the sequence wasn't relatively the identical besides, with Beltran, Reyes, and Delgado out of the lineup for the Mets. Regardless, they could had been top scoring video games with the first-rate lineup in baseball (Yankees) in opposition to an k Mets lineup.
