I have a very hard time saving money. I am trying to afford an Hermes Picotin handbag: retail about $2k, but I'd like to save $3k by January.

I have a job, but it's in clothing retail and I find myself spending my entire check on clothes. I don't get paid regularly either, just once a month... so it's really easy just to work and take clothes (by keeping a tab and using my check to pay it) as I work along.
I sell things on ebay pretty regularly too. I can make good money at it, cause I just sell my designer clothes and bags, but then I ALWAYS end up spending the money I just made... back on eBay!! I just can't figure a way to save money.

BTW... I am married and don't pay any of the "real" bills such as mortgage, car, etc... so the money I make is mine to keep... but I just have a really hard time hanging onto it. Is anyone in a similar situation or have good suggestions for saving. I've tried giving it to my mom to hang onto, but then I always ask for it when I want something.

Have your paycheck automatically deposited into your checking account. Then have the bank do an automatic transfer of a portion of that money into a savings account.

If you think that you will raid the savings account, then every time you save $1k in the savings account, buy a CD (certificate of deposit) so that you can't touch it until it matures. When you get the CD, make sure you get one that automatically renews unless you specifically ask them to cash it out at the end of the term.

If you want something simpler, than give the money to a trusted friend. Tell him/her that if you ask for it back before January, they can have half of it. That will motivate you not to touch it. But you need a disciplined friend... at least more so than you.

This is too good, buy something for $100 a couple of weeks later sell it for $20 on E-bay. Read your post, think, and you will have the answer to your own question. It's called restraint. Looks like you have never experienced hard times, but eventually you will, then you will learn the value of a dollar. Sounds like Paris Hilton wannabe, No soul, no control,

omg those are ugly!!!!!!!! LOL

Anyway, tell yourself if you REALLY want the handbag, you need to save for it. If you can't save then you can't have it. Spending and saving for what you want - you can't do both so you have to give one up. If you want to save you have to give up spending. If you keep spending then you have to give up saving. Good thing you don't want the $9500 hand bag I just saw on ebay. Gucci is looking kind of inexpensive now.

Do you think you can give your money to your husband and save it up in the bank without heading in divorce court over it? You need someone who wouldn't give it back until you reach your goal - and someone who can say no to you - but you have to remember they are doing you a favor so you can't get mad if they don't give it to you. Think Hermes picotin.

Sorry to tell you, but I think you are utterly spoiled and undisciplined. Suffer until you get a grip on your self. There are millions of people on this Earth who have to manage on $1 a day.
