On your side of the float...
Create a totem pole and teepee. The top of the totem pole could have your school initials and the teepee could be decorated with symbols, lettering and school initials.
Have your mascots/people wearing Indian attire and, of course, your school colors. (If you are in an area where it's not "PC" to wear the Indian attire, use team uniforms instead.)
Create a "pen" or corral and put the opposing Indians in there. Be sure it's clear it's the other team with their school colors, etc.

Hope this helps some. Good luck.

a theme? how bout just making it the great indian wars or sumthing, the "your school"-"other school"Indian battles?.... i think it makes the most sense, and it really is kinda like a battle you guys are competing in sports for homecoming... the float could have indians wearing outfits w your school colors charging at/defeating ones with the rival colors on. good luck

Have two tomahawks in a "V" shaped pattern with the name of the city on one handle and the name of the other city on the other handle.

Then have Indians "V pattern" Indians on the side of the float.
