We have had the counter top 3 years. It is a very thin crack but it runs maybe three inches to the edge and then around the edge. What can I seal it with to contain the cracking?

Unfortunately you cannot fix it effectively because you cannot get any real quantity of adhesive into the crack. Epoxy resin (Araldite) would work but you would be able to get in the crack and its colour is different and it will show.
