i think hate might be a bit harsh. I don't think we are their favourite people and that is probably because of our repeated invasion of their country, killing of their people and generally treating them like crap.

Have you ever been to Ireland. My father was born there and I have relatives there. There is no hate in Ireland for people in the U.K. Most of the irish people have left their history behind them. Just as in other countries, there are those crazy people that just want to blow up, fight and hurt those that won't go along with what they think. Southern Ireland is separate from Northern Ireland, and you never hear a ripple of discontent there. Norther Ireland is the most peaceful it has been in years and everyone is realizing that it this beautiful country has a multitued of all different kinds of people living there now Try leaving thet past behind and live in the NOW, you will be a much, much happier person, just like the Irish.

The English want control of the straits between Northen Ireland and England/Scotland. The English invaded Ireland numerous times. They have restricted ability of the Irish to own land, conduct business, practice their religion.

You can find more by reading "The Story of the Irish Race" by Seumas Macmanus.

All colonies hate the empire that oppresses them.

SMART freedom fighters in a colony try to get the common people in the imperial country on their side! An example - people like James Connolly talked about how the British government oppresses British working people as well as the Irish.

Stupid freedom fighters allow religion, ethnicity and other non-relevant factors to take the topic away from the empire's oppression. People who bomb British and Irish Protestant civilians are examples of this.

Obviously some do as in England. On my visits I have found that underneath the alleged hatred there is a great deal of liking and mutual respect for individuals. Most units in the British forces have at least one Irishman within them. Almost without fail they are popular and respected as friends and comrades, this does not stop the banter. A fair amount of leg pulling goes on and they often like to play the stereotype, which way did you come? oh I wouldn't have come that way, type of remark. in return I sometimes play the silly blighter English man.

To 'Bunny' above.....like you said, you know nothing of Ireland! Spend some time here and you will find out for yourself what a great country it is!

'Maureen S' - couldn't have said it better myself! Ireland is a beautiful country with friendly people. A tiny minority spoil it for others but thankfully that is in the past now.

I thought Ireland didn't mind the UK, and the UK love the Irish - especially their choice in fine alcoholic beverages...

They do not necessarily hate each other. Historically the Irish people had to fight for independence from the British. This is normal with other countries with an empire. I think hate is a strong word in this case.

Ireland doesn't hate the UK, the two nations are inextricably linked by history and bloodline, similarly the USA.
There are those who vent their ire, at any neighbour who is nearby, especially those who are successful.
But in general they are brother nations.

The north of Ireland wants UK to end its illegal occupation of us is all. From this illegal occupation and a long history of tyranny, mistreatment, and abuse - hatred may spring.

I certainly don't hate the people, only their government and its policies and their military. Once we are free and reunited with ROI, hatred will fade.

I'm not sure they do, but do remember incidents in the past where the English sent in troops from time to time to quell some religious disagreements. Probably similar to the feeling we would get if the feds came into our town and declared martial law.
