College is kinda hard right out of highschool. I went to college, then dropped out, but i'm going back,
Plus, college will allow you to type with out saying 'like'.
Well then, miss 'to cool for school' don't go to college, we really don't care what you do, just remember, 'would you like fries with that'

Hey Kaleigh, you're absolutely right about college being a huge money trap. There are plenty of unnecessary courses and idiot professors. Unfortunately it's a really good trap. Your parents grew up in a different era when a high school diploma could get you a decent job. Today's undergraduate diploma is yesterday's high school diploma. In other words, if you want to get a job which is the modern equivalent of what mom and dad have you're going to have to get some sort of college degree. Otherwise, you'll end up in some service industry or retail career that will be wholly unsatisfying. If you're gifted enough to get into an university, you really need to take that opportunity now...
PLUS, the working world kind of sucks, Kaleigh. The day-to-day drudgery of the real world is boring and lame. You'll have a lot more fun meeting new people and experiencing new things in college. Yea, it costs an arm and a leg, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say, "Wow, I wish I'd never gone to college." That includes the people who are absolutely buried under debt now. You may find something in college you just love to do. I don't think you can afford to not go to college.

Well actually you can find a job without college but it may not be what you want to do. The only jobs that don't require a college degree and pay a little decent is warehouse and factory jobs and some times they don't pay much. I worked in a warehouse for two years and I hated it. I regret dropping out of school even this day. I have an okay job now at the bank but it doesn't pay nearly as much as the journalism job I realy want but I can't get since I didn't finish college.

college is about teaching you responsibility and time management, traits u need in the real world... the class and teachers are a complete joke because u can get those books on your own and read them... it's just that they place you in a setting with your peers and things that ay interest you to see how well you'll succeed... how can u balance your life as a young adult (partying, joing clubs/groups, a social life), with your life as a person with responsibilities to your job, school, teacher, and boss. However, I do feel your pain... its a waste of a lot of money, but that degree will help YOU get a job before the person that didn't go to college.

You said you love psychology. Shouldn't you go to college so you can work in that field? No, you don't have to go to college to be happy or make money. But what about knowledge? And yes, you can also get that with out going to college, just reading. But can you do it on your own? Do you know what to read and are you able to follow a program all by yourself? If you don't, you'll become one with the majority in your town. Good luck.

"College graduates and people with graduate and professional degrees earn from 63 to 120 percent more money than those who stopped directly after high school. However, the incomes of people with no education past high school and people who attended some college are not significantly different."
"The full-time employment rate of college graduates with an associate's degree is 70.7 percent and the rate steadily increases with degree levels. Doctoral graduates have a 95.1 percent full-time employment rate."
--Penn State study, 2006
Sure, plenty of people beat the odds and live well despite a lack of college degree. I know some, too. However, the odds are stacked heavily in favor of more education. Those who have the college degree are more likely to be employed and once employed, likely to earn substantially more money.

You get more respect getting a college degree because you learn something from college. But I have to agree with you, when you change your major, you lose money. Then again, that's why, you take all your general classes at least for the first year of college. So, when you change your major, your general classes still go with you and you won't waste much.

whether that's true or not, why not just go for the experience? I mean It's fun isn't it? expand your horizons meet new people and party. Better than sitting around your hometown with the same old faces (that you could come back and see anytime anyway), surely?
although I agree that college is too expensive in America, we think it is expensive here in the UK but it is no comparison.
