Well, to start with, chameleons and monitor lizards are both lizards. Monitors are a widespread and common group of lizards that come in a variety of sizes - some can be quite large (like the Komodo Dragon), and all are fairly aggressive and enthusiastic predators. Chameleons are generally rather small, slow, quiet lizards that hunt smallish insects using their remarkably long sticky tongues to catch them. Alligators and Crocodiles are groups of medium-sized to very large kinds of aquatic lizard-like reptiles. The smaller ones generally eat fish or other smallish animals, while most of the bigger varieties can take quite large animals as prey.
