If a Republican controlled Congress truly passed the original SCHIP, I can assure you of two things:
1. That the child health care portions were crafted by Democrats.
2. That the original bill was filled with unrelated riders that would have been pleasing to the Republican constituents i.e. tax breaks for business interests.

Bill Clinton (Democrat) is the president that passed the bill. So yes, Republicans do some things right. I just didn't like the way that the Republicans changed under Bush, taking on a "My way or the highway" kind of attitude. Even Republicans such as Colin Powell, Alan Greenspan, and former presidential Republican candidate Buchanan have blasted the Bush Administration. I grew up a Republican, but the actions of the Republicans under the Bush administration has made me favor the actions of the Democrats in many instances lately.

Kind of ironic, isn't it? Wasn't Newt loathed by the dems in 1996? How many people on answers were of voting age in 1996 and remember this?

When President Nixon resigned office.

That is the best example of a Republican doing something right.

Only if George W. Bush could follow suit.

during Ginrich's time was also during Clinton's time...this was an era when the 2 parties had to cooperate to get anything done....if you just listen to the Conservatives, everything was wholely their concept, but the reality is that thay had to work with each other.
