Moderate to low tolerance to cold weather; do not resist frost or snow. Though a tropical tree full sun exposure is not advisable, thus should be planted in absolute umbrian areas. They prefer fresh, deep and humid soil none limy. Should the ground have mineral deficiencies it could suffer different types of chlorosis.

Hope it helps.

There are all types of magnolias the deciduous types prefer a cold temperate climate with adequate water and the evergreen varieties can tolerate warmer climates with adequate water. Check out the varieties and see that they fit with the climate zones you live in. Its rubbish that they don't wear frost.

They mostly like warm and humid weather, like in the Southeast. I've seen them in Zone 5 areas, but I think they're iffy there. Zones 6 - 9 are where they do the best.
