To get your bachelor's degree, you have to take a number of general education requirements, which vary by state and country. Usually you need to do a few basic maths, an English or two, some social studies and a language, and THEN you can declare a major and take the coursework required to do that major, and a minor.
In grad school, you don't do general studies- you focus on one topic and take a number of courses that are much more intense (because it is expected you are well-grounded in the basics). You may be expected to help teach and do research on the topic. The work is harder, less broad and faster-paced. Because the competition to get in is so fierce- only a few grad spots vs many applicants- there is no fooling around. You goof off, you're out. You darn well better be able to perform.
The end result is better pay, better job opportunities, and much more respect and credibility.

At a 4-year college, you get either an associate's or usually a bachelor's degree. At a graduate school, you can get your Masters degree. If a school has a name of university, that school has a college and a graduate school in the same facility. If the school is just named college, it's just a 4-year college.

After receiving your BA or BS from a four year university, you may want to tack on another two years of study and get a Masters degree. Then if you're really on a roll, you'll go for a PhD.

4 year college is your undergraduate. You receive either you Bachelor in Science (B.S.) or your Bachelor of Art (B.A.) Your graduate school is when you get your Master's degree. (M. ?)...whatever you end up graduating with.

I have a B.S. in Counseling. I'm getting my Master's right now in Criminal Justice so it would be M.C.J
