The context will help get a better fix on the best translation. As with any language, there are multiple ways to say something in Latin. Generator plantarum = breeder of all plants
Generator olerum = breeder of vegetables to be eaten.
As used in Latin, generator was applied to breeding animals only. Breeding plants was not really practiced, so this is on the assumption Romans would have applied the same word.
