I have let my body become completely off schedule. Since Sunday night I haven't really gotten anymore than 2 - 4 hours of broken up sleep a night. Even with no classes today I was unable to sleep last night and believe that I have become "too tired to sleep." I was hoping for any suggestions and whether or not Nyquil or like an Advil PM are good for promoting sleep. Or if I should just have a few beers before trying to go to bed. Any suggestions will be be helpful!!!

Does Nyquil and stuff like that leave you feeling groggy and "hung over" the next day?

Here is one that I did in college.
I would get in the shower and get the water as hot as I could stand it. I would keep in that a couple of minutes. Next, I would turn off the hot water very quickly. This makes the water turn super cold super fast. You will not like this part. However, it is needed. Keep in that for a bit. Probably a minute or so. Then get the water as hot as you can stand it again. Stay in that for a few minutes (definately until you no longer feel cold). Get out, towel off, and go to bed.
Of course, this system works by putting your body into shock. I am not sure it is a very healthy idea, however, it did put me into a deep sleep pretty fast whenever I used it. I would not recommend for anyone with a heart condition though.

Try chamomile tea, sit with the lights low and the tv or radio soft. It will relax you. A hot bath with the tea will work too. Origins has a tube that you sniff. It is a natural ingredient that will make you sleepy. I would not dose up on alcohol or nyquil. You won't really get a restful nights sleep. We have all passed out. I usually wake up and feel like crap!!! Good night sleepy face!! Hope you get some sleep B4 you get crazy!!!

If you are having trouble sleeping, you need to make sure you keep the same schedule of sleep every night. Even if you cannot fall asleep, it is important to try to lay there for awhile because it reinforces to your body that this is the chance to sleep. Also, I would suggest no heavy eating before sleeping... that means no meals three hours before bed. Another culprit could be your diet. Make sure you are eating healthy foods, and not alot of processed stuff. All those sugars totally throw your body out of whack.

before you go to bed, don't do any strenuous activity that will get you more hyper. Try to calm down and relax at least one hour before you go to bed. Read a book, listen to some music, even watching T.V. (no horror movies!, something nice and relaxing, like a trip over Italy!) can help you relax. Drink some hot tea, warm milk, hot chocolate, or something warm (except caffeinated coffee) which will help you feel relaxed. You can even take a warm bath before bedtime. Hope this helps, and sweet dreams!!

I've used a real simple remedy from my spice cupboard - ground cloves tea
I simmer a little in boiling water for 5-10(depending on the strength I wish it to be) and drink it down and go to bed. :)
Tends to make my mouth feel a little numbish.
One guy was back from war and couldn't sleep. Hadn't for a while.
Used this, but first he got into a book while he left it simmer and kept putting more water in so he could keep reading.
Finally it was strong and sludgy when he drank it.
He went to bed and slept two days and his family didn't know if they should be worried or not because he seemed to be breathing normally and all. I wouldn't recommend his style :-)

I have trouble sleeping too. My Dr. suggested "Melatonin". It's a sleep aid that's bought over the counter anywhere. You'll find it with the vitamins.
Hope this helps. It does for me.

Nyquil works best,
What does the trick with me, is just listening to music, that way i can't release my stress and stuff like that.
I hope you get rest.

Just take a shot of liquor---any kind will do... But I go for something that tastes good... That always puts me right to sleep if I am feeling restless....
