Yet, the dems want more social programs run by the government and increased taxes--money to be spent by the government...I don't understand.

How do democrats and republicans differ; except for the fact that they like to argue with each other?

Nope, it's the exact opposite. Republicans/Conservatives are traditionally against increased government. This differs radically from the "Neo-Cons" who have done more deficit spending that any other adminstraiton in history.

There are liberal values and their are conservative values. The left usually supports liberal values and big govenrment control of people's lives. The right usually supports conservative values and limited government. Fasciests support conservative values and big government control. This makes the neo-cons much more like fasciests than most would care to admit.

The last true conservative (small government, less taxes) was Ronald Regan. Since the late 1980s, the Republican party has been hijacked by the religious right. Unfortunately, this has led to a series of ideologically driven agendas by people on the right.

How can anybody be as out of touch with reality as today's Republicans? Under Clinton, taxes were no higher than they are now (except for Bush's filthy rich cronies) and the budget was balanced. Why? Because Clinton didn't spend like a drunken teenager with a stolen credit card. In fact he reduced welfare expenditures. Today's Republicans aren't even remotely like what they claim to be. They do all of the things they accuse Democrats of doing (which the Democrats don't actually do) and far worse things like torture, illegal spying, and oppressive and unconstitutional religion-based legislation. If the worst thing the Democrats do is try to help the poor, they're most certainly the lesser of two evils.

Republicans lower your taxes, but lately they have been spending like Democrats. There is no party for Fiscal Conservatives anymore.

I want a party who lowers taxes, which often lead to increased revenues, lower spending (on a bunch of ineffective programs that are loaded with patronage), and take care of people who are in need.
The Level the playing field comment is kind of funny. We spend 3 times as much on public education than individuals who purchase private Ed, yet the children in these schools can barely read and write. Do we need more money, or eliminate our State (NY) law that gives 80% to the unions? Democrats don't want to level the playing field. They want to satify the union vote.

Well obviously your grasp of history is nil at best if you think that members of the party of the SEDITIOUS & SLEAZY (a.k.a. Democrat party) are NOT about total control of the populace...

Ever heard of that socialist Ponzi scam called Social Security?

How about that massive wealth redistrubution program started by Lyndon Baines Johnson called the War on Poverty?

That was just so politicos (of both parties apparently) can extort earnings from the productive to pander to the parasitic...

Have you ever heard of something called, "The Fairness Docrtrine"? Yes, another nugget of nuttiness from the party of the SEDITIOUS & SLEAZY (a.k.a. Democrat party)...

Your second question is actually a much better one IMHO: "How do democrats and republicans differ; except for the fact that they like to argue with each other?"...

Sadly on many things there's barely a dime's worth of difference between the two parties...

increased personal freedoms and there is a question inside the party as to whether personal freedom would be fair access to health care and a living wage. I am a Democrat and understand well that there are many who use the system and do nothing to contribute because they're lazy...we need to supply motivation to get these people to contribute...like refusing support if they do not seek employment or do drugs (yes a drug test)...but the flow of help to good people doing their best but slipping throught he cracks should not stop. There is a caste system in America and it is unfair to give access to education based not on aptitude, but wealth....free higher education to everyone with a C average...free vocational school to all who want it...it will make this country great

Democrats are for increased government control they believe the government knows how to run your life better than you do. The Republicans used to believe in less government but now day's I don't know what the h--- they believe in.

Democrats are always blamed for increasing taxes for social programs. But the republicans have become so dogmatic that they would rather see healthcare in ruins than pay for it merely because it goes against their stubborn ideology and they can't possibly let the dems be right about anything.

For example
Smoking bans .
They want Gun Control.
Don't say God in school.
In California they are controlling what our children eat and drink while in school .
Republican want less Government Democrats are all about controlling the people with more laws.

We're against using government to restrict social decisions like the religious right likes to do.

Libs are live and let live on social issues.

On economics, we believe gov't should be used to level out the playing field. Every person should have a decent opportunity to succeed. That means public education for every single person regardless of income, state subsidized universities, GI Bills, job training, etc.
