etc, that caused him to turn down the one yesterday? I thought that many of the current Yankees don't want to play under anyone but Torre, so, George better come back really quick with a counter-offer, or is this the end of the line for real? If so, who will be the Yankees manager next season? Don Mattingly?

The deal was fair to Torre. Players that whine about who the manager is need to be shown the door. Don Mattingly, Joe Girardi, Tony LaRussa, or Bobby Valentine would be fine for much less than $5 mil in base salary. Managers have very little to do with the success of a MLB team IMO.

No...I think both sides didn't want the other...Steinbrenner didn't really want him back, which is stupid as hell...Torre has been the best Yankee manager probably in history...and I'm a Red Sox fan...and Torre didn't want just a one year deal with a pay cut in the base salary...Torre deserves respect...
