I say the best player in the nba is either lebron or kobe.
Kobe took his D-league team (parker, Walton, Odom, Brown) to the playoffs even though they lost to the mighty suns (one of the best nba teams in the league). Kobe does pass, you'll know that by watching his games and he averaged 5.4 ast last season, .6 less than the so called team player lebron, also which is more than carter, pierce, anthony, and redd who aren't considered ball hogs.
Lebron led his, not so great, but decent team (Hughes, Marshall, Gooden, and Ilguaskas) to the playoffs and led them pass the best eastern conference team and into the finals. after seeing his performance, how can you say he isn't the best?
I like steve nash but I can't say he is the best. Steve nash is a great player but he is not the most dominant or best overall player. In order for steve nash to win, he needs good players around him to win. Even when Nash got injured, phoenix were still winning games. Imagine If he was on the Cavs or the Lakers? He would not even come close to what he is doing right now. but he does make the team better and with his performance right now, he is the best point guard in the league.

I would say Kobe. He's the closest we can get to when u think of scoring machines. Wilt, Jordan, and so on......... He's name is in the same breath of air w/ those legends.
Even though I'm not really a Kobe fan, I've come to realize that Kobe is really unstoppable. He could of scored 81 before he scored 81. Flashback, when he killed the Mavs w/ a hot hand 60 plus in 3 Quarters. At the end he could of had 75 77 80 84. But some people would look at a best player in the thought of a player makes other players better? Can't argue, but when Ur hot for a good 6 to 7 more season's milk the cow man milk it for all it's worth!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honorable Mentions Mcgrady, Allen Iverson.

This shouldn't even be a question! KOBE BRYANT is the best player in the NBA today! He has been the best player in the league for years! He scores the most points puts his team on his back and wins games. he's the most clutch shooter in the league today! he plays defense plus he's a champion! 3 rings with or without Shaq that's a great feat. Drama or no drama any team would LOVE to have Kobe on thier squad!

PG: Nash
SG: Bryant
SF: James
PF: Duncan
C: Ming
The best player in the NBA is Tim Duncan. He has a lot of rings, he's a team player, a hard worker, a great guy, and a person coaches love. He is the definition of a true champion. No disrespect to Nash but he does play lousy defense but he does every thing else at an exceptional level.

Kobe Bryant-
1) Offense- Unguardable with that 6'6 frame and leaping ability. Add in the mix his unworldly talent and athletic gifts, there is no way in the world someone could stop him. He can hit the three, the mid range J, and his terrific ball handling enables him to get to the rim when he wants to.
2) Defense- Lock down defender who can guard multiple positions using his speed, strength, or defensive intelligence. Great instincts who can make life difficult for the opposition.

You'd think it would have to be dwane wade or lebron at this stage, but wade seems to be injured too much lately, and lebron really had a disappointing season last year. He dropped off slightly, although he is still one of the best....but not THE best.
It might not be the most exciting choice, but Tim Duncan has to be way high up there. He gets it done year in year out, the spurs dynasty has been on his coattails for better part of decade, and he still had what it takes to bring them championship last year.
Its not just about individual stats, its also about grit and championship mettle and knowing how to win. He has it all, but flies under the rader for the most part.

no one can do what kobe does. you can't stop him on offense and he can shut down anyone he guards. he might have the best mechanics of any player that has ever played. there is no weakness in is game. dewayne, labron, and all others are trying to get to kobes level of play. the only other player that comes to mind is duncan the way he dominates in the post.
