is it just the word? i'm gay and i want to get married. it is more important to me right now to get the rights that hetero couples get when married rather than being recognized uner God. do you think that if gays were given the "marriage rights" under the lable "civil unions" it would be allowed

Screw if it it's not recognized by most states, If it's important to you and your partner and would signify the bond you have with him then by all means do it! Why America, which is supposed to be the greatest country in the world is so behind on gay rights, is beyond me! Other European countries have openly gay political figures and no one bats an eye. The Israeli army even allows gay soldiers for God's sake! The

American conservatives are so concerned that legalizing gay marriages will diminish the sanctity of "real" marriages but they need to be more concerned about their own. The divorce rate is 50% in this country! I feel gay marriage can only raise that percentage, not reduce it! All the gays couples I know who have gotten married have chosen to do so after throughly playing the field and sowing their wild oats (and gay men know who to do that better than anyone! hee hee) So when they finally do settle down, they indeed know what they are looking for in their partner and are ready to make a lifelong commitiment. Compare that to all the silly-nilly young stupid straight 20-somethings here who rush into marriage and think "oh well, if we get divorced, then this will just be my starter marriage" Gay couples seem to take marriage VERY seriously, mainly because it's something they aren't allowed to do.

Not to be slamming all straight couples. I am straight and have been married to my husband for 6 years.

In Vermont it IS allowed.

In any case, I'm afraid that it isn't that simple. Truth is that right wing religious fanatics simply hate homosexuals. If most of them had it their way, you wouldn't be able to vote or buy a house or even be a citizen. That said, most people are moderate, if not liberal, on the subject. Fight for "civil unions," first, and eventually people will get used to the idea. That said, because of the loud and obnoxious far right, don't expect to happen sooner than later.

Good luck!

I agree with your logic. In certain states two people can enter into palimony agreements. In legal terms, gay couples who share property and other valuable assets need a binding legal agreement in case things don't work out or if one dies before the other. Without such an agreement, things could get messy, especially with a death and greedy family members coming out the woodwork to stake a claim over someone they perceive as nothing more than a stranger to them.

Well I'm sorry i dont really understand, but i believe if you are gay and you want to get married do, I'm a Christian and believe in God, but i also know god loves his children and wants them to be happy, i think it is just as special even if you are gay (i am not) just if you were wondering lol i just support people who choose to be true to who they are.

I dont know if it will be recognised for two gay people to get married but i hope it does if it already hasn't been.

Take care, and i hope you do get married, Good Luck!!!!

For me there are two issues: 1. We should not enforce any groups morality in civil law. 2. Gay partners should have the same rights and benefits as other partners.

It is a lot more likely. Personally I have no problem with "civil union", but marriage should be between a man and a woman.
