If the pc has no ram then it won't boot at all. So no operating system will be loaded and no files will be opened.

When a pc boots up it first loads the program stored in BIOS. The BIOS then loads into memory whatever program is residing in the first sector of the boot device, called the Master Boot Record or MBR. The MBR is only 512 bytes in size and contains machine code instructions for booting the machine, called a boot loader, along with the partition table. Once the BIOS finds and loads the boot loader program into memory, it yields control of the boot process to it.

If no memory is found the machine will not be able to continue the boot process.

Most modern BIOS won't even allow you to boot the computer without any RAM at all. If you were super clever, I suppose you could figure out how to bypass that and get the whole thing to run on virtual RAM. Not a good idea, though.

Without RAM your computer wouldn't even be able to boot up let alone open any files. Computers need ram to function.

The computer won't even boot up without RAM....
i.e. You don't have a chance to think about opening a file.

Hi. Do a search on "640KB". Bill Gates may or may not have said this, but I think without at LEAST this much your machine will not know how to communicate with the keyboard. My original computer, a Timex-Sinclair 1000, had only 2K internal (16K with the external memory module). Again, 0K would not work.

. Hypothetically = Any file that does not open and execute within itself. It is not independant Dependant programs must be loaded into memory for mutual cross access of files ( running two or more dependant programs at once)

Well I don't think it's possible to run a modern day operating system without ram..

Although you CAN run many old programs from the pre-dos/dos era.

without RAM you can't load the operating system, so you can just sit and stare at a blank screen.
