How about we shut down all the tv production studios and give the money to the poor. That way well also be eliminating one of the things that keeps people poor, TV, because it keeps people ignant.

Mass media is a necessary evil and a powerful weapon to eradicate ignorance and educate people. Media conglomorates put on such silly shows and as long as people watch - it will be there to stay. How else can you explain idol worship of movie stars!! Only in India. Help people realise that this is a fantasy world and only a few benefit form such folly. Stop watching stupid shows.

On the other hand, channeled properly, it could be a great motivator. Lets assume a illterate watching such show and seeing money pour, might motivate himself/herself or their children to learn things -i.e., get educated so they can aspire for and win some money.

Works both ways - Isn't it

If you think about it, it is not the audience that makes the money. It is the channel that thinks about itself. For example, Sony must have made about 70-80 crore in the final episode of Indian Idol.
Very few people like you have time to think about the poor. Most of them are into self indulgence and self prosperity.

Would not make any difference. Look at all the lottery winners that had big paydays and are now poor again. You really need a plan to have and keep money.
