The conservative reactions to the question linked here - from a school kid! - demonstrate that Reagan's "welfare queen" is still the way to monger doubt. Perspective and intent be damned, it would appear...

Mele Kai - Rather than me being defensive, I'll just ask whether you've mixed me up with somebody? Either that or I have an imposter on the boards here. The questions you claim I've answered aren't ringing any bells. If you want to send me links to remind me, you'll find my e-mail link on my profile. Until then, I really think you've confused me with somebody else.

Yes to some extent they are sliming the cheating parents who can afford to buy private insurance or who "make the choice" to do without insurance.

But since many Republican voters may be uninsured themselves or hard pressed to pay $1200/month to Blue Cross, I think that the Republican smear machine is now relying much more on misinformation about the legislation itself. It would cover people to 120,000 in income, 25 year old children, illegal aliens, yahda yahda....They are also taking pains to throw in other arguments such as the Slippery Slope: it's a path to socialized medicine! and the Evil Democrats: they want to expand entitlements and make the president look bad!

The Q & A you linked was a good read.

Edit: Another argument I liked is that the program was not intended to cover people with such high incomes. Silly Congress.. they think that they are supposed to determine the intent of the legislation they pass! How bizarre is that.

In case you have a little problem keeping up, the S-chip program is not for people on welfare. Welfare recipients receive Medicaid. S-chip is for the "children of low income" families. I do not know how you define "low income" or the term "children" but this bill, as it was presented to the President, expands this worthy program to include "low income" families earning up to 300 times the poverty level and "children" up to 25 years old.

I see no problem with answering that young person's question truthfully. The true purpose of presenting this bill in this form to the President was simply a cynical way of mis-leading the general public by making him veto it and then bombarding the media with "the President does not want to fund the S-chip program to provide poor kids with life saving health care".

Nothing new in that. It is a common ploy. It has been done many, many times.

And as a advocate liberal, one would assume, your tactics are? Your posts are lacking facts and are often emotionally based. Is that what I can expect from a Democrat? I would prefer a civil debate, yours mostly promote outrage. Sorry. But that seems like the pot calling the kettle black.
note: when recently asked how do you feel about campaign funds collected illegally, How DO you feel about Democrats Now? Your post I saw the Debate and I am happy with them. Freedom of speech. Yet the reality of illegal activity does not daunt you. I expect when Teflon HRC gets burnt you may see that listening is key. Even Bill professes that the number one

The left wants to gain n more power using the guilt of "its for the children" old play book lies.

Instead of leaving the program alone th left wants to make it bigger and open the doors to socialized Medicine.
