College style really shows who the better team is. each get a fair chance to sink or swim...NFL OT sucks, winner is often decided by a coin toss, and ask Jerome Bettis, sometimes the refs even screw that up!!

The NFL version of sudden death is much much better because it values ALL aspects of the game. The college version is really all about the offense, it does not take into account the D, or the kick and return game. We'll hear the old argument that whoever wins the coin toss in the NFL wins the game. That is not all that true. Last time I saw the team that wins the coin toss in OT only goes on to win about 60% of the time. So what percentage of the college teams that win the coin toss in OT and elect to have the ball first go on to win the OT?

College is better than Pro OT. In the NFL, if you win the toss, you win the OT. But I can see how it takes too long. I personally like the Arena League's Overtime best. Starts with a Kickoff and normal play conditions. Both teams get a chance with the ball, and if it is tied after both teams get a chance, it then becomes Sudden Death.

College OT because it gives both teams a chance. In the NFL if you lose the coin toss, majority of the time you lose the game because the team only needs to drive 40-50 yards for the game winning field goal.

I like the college overtime better. I think it is a lot more fair, both teams have the opportunity to put points on the board, where as I feel like more often than not in the NFL whichever team wins the coin flip wins the game.
I do, however, wish that they'd move the ball back in the college game. Putting it on the 25 the team starts off in scoring position, I'd like to see the ball put on the 35. That way a team actually has to move the ball to score.

Sudden death.
Everyone keeps saying "Oh, it give both teams a chance to win". Last I checked, both teams are on the field at the same time in sudden death, which means both have the opportunity to win. Why so much credit is given to the offense and not enough pressure is put on the defense is beyond me.
The college setup is somewhat contrived: teams start at the 25 yard line, no time clock. Who decided the 25 yard line was a good starting spot? With these high powered offenses, you can score from any spot on the field.

In 2006, 63% of teams winning the coin toss in NFL overtime games won. If the system was fair, that percentage would be close to 50%. For those not familiar with statistics, that is a HUGE deal. Even if you don't like the shootout format of college football's system, you have to admit it's much more fair.

It's a consensus, college OT is more exciting. Of course, in the NFL it's do or die, but that's not always fair. If you have a good kicker, it's almost a guarantee. However, in NCAA rules, each score must be matched or exceeded. This makes it more exciting because you will see players at their finest.

I like sudden death better because it forces the defense to play better, and in college if they score then the offense has a chance. Sudden death doesn't give that luxury.
