the idea of the game has actually been around for thousands of years, but it underwent hundreds of modifications. in ancient times, many civilizations liked to kick stones around and run with them. in the 19th century, England introduced Rugby Football which immediately became a popular sport and made a transition to America. In 1876, Walter Camps got an idea from soccer and rugby and attempted to form a new league. In 1904, Harvard University sought to make a public league, but President Theodore Roosevelt dissaproved it due to the high number of deaths and severe injuries and demanded that the league undergo rule changes and the field be bigger than that of the original rugby field. soon afterwards, the entire sport was reveolutionized and the forward pass was made legal. it was the birth of American Football. In 1920, the league's name was American Professional Football Association, but it changed once again in 1922 when it adopted the name "National Football League."

I invented football in the late1700's. I was fighting off an alien invasion with my pet T-Rex, Otis, and we discovered that he was my lead blocker and I would often pass him random body parts for treats. This aroused an idea of a wonderful game! So I called it Football!!!!!!!

Art Rooney.
The first game was played at Three-Rivers Stadium, the best game was played between the Steelers and some other team. The Steelers won the super bowl that year and no other team ever came close to being as good as they are. They play ay Heinz Field now, but they are still the best team ever, and the Rooney's still run the show!!
