There is this teacher at my school that helps with college applications, picking a college etc.
My mom is 75% native American and I know there was a chance I maybe be able to get a scholarship because of it.
I ask the teacher in the office in charge of answer students questions about college. She told me she didn't know and that she knew nothing about minorites and that she doesn't help minorites. That after being at the school for (i believe 18 years) Nobody has ask that question and maybe I should send post it saying Native-American so that the college would see it and somebody else could asnwer questions about minorites.
I feel complete affended because I don't feel aprecated being called a minortiy ( I have a name!)
She started laughing after I asked her and was rolling her eyes.

Let me get this straight - this "teacher" has been at the school for 18 years, and she knows nothing about minorities and how to help them get a scholarship for college? It's time for you to have a talk with the school board president with your parent(s) about how this teacher "answered" your questions.
Good luck. Also - you might want to look up some of these words that you wrote in your question. You don't feel "affended" but rather "offended". Also, you don't feel aprecated, you feel "appreciated". With spelling like that, you won't exactly be a college's first pick. Work on your spelling too, ok?

Are you in the U.S.? You should report her. She needs to take your heritage seriously and she should know better in her position.
That being said, I think the scholarships based on minority status have waned in the last few years. It used to be that if you were 1/16th or 1/8th Native American, you would qualify for special funds, but you had to be able to PROVE beyond a shadow of a doubt that you were NA. Is your mom part of any established, official tribe?
If you have decided on a college, I would call their financial aid office and ask to speak to a financial aid counselor. Ask him or her if there are special funds available to those with significant Native American lineage.
Talk to your principal or asst. principal about your teacher and her response to you. She was out of line.
(P.S> If you're going to use the racial thing - the Native American thing - to get money, you are going to be identifying as a minority. So I'd get used to that word.)
Good luck! :)

You can't have your cake and eat it too.
If you're looking for special treatment because of your heritage, you must accept being called a minority. Your minority status is what you are hoping will get you special treatment.
All of the laws that allow such specialty programs use the word "minority" in them. If you want to consider the term derogatory, you'll need to be petitioning your Congressman, not your local teachers.
That being said, laughing about this is clearly pretty insensitive. I wouldn't just use a random teacher. Isn't there a guidance counselor at your school?
That's what they DO for a living.

You should be talking to your school guidance counselor, not some teacher. They are the ones who help you get into college and know what will help you get a scholarship. You should also be going online to look at scholarships. Don't wait.
Also, your grammar on here is bad. Don't write like that on any applications or you wont get into any college.
As for that woman, tell your counselor what she said. She will get in trouble.

Contact the Superintendant of Schools & the school board if you have one. What she said & is doing is illegal. She is not doing her job, she is violating your rights, & she is discriminating against a protected minority (even if Native Americans were here first!) You have every right to be offended. Not only is she totally unprofessional, she is also a cruel person.

Oh , Hell no! That is something you should not take lightly. Report her SOON! I was kicked out of a class in High school cause I looked white. I am El Salvadorian. I hate that Sh*t! Get her out of that school. The world would be a better place without that bigot working in the system.

You don't want any advice from that lady anyway. She is obviously an idiot. You need to choose your school then talk to a Financial Aid officer from the college. They will be much more equipt to help you.

I think you need to talk to somebody else at the school.....maybe a guidance counselor. Who does this woman report to? I know she's accountable to somebody with more authority. She doesn't sound like she's competent at her job.
