Why would any country want to encourage perverse behavior? It is no more legitimate than people with animals. As the moral compass for many, most churches of course condemn it. Even from a secular perspective, it is accepted just about nowhere either legally or morally.

in many states people of the same sex can legally have the county per from a civil union, which is basically the same thing
as toward calling it a marriage as in the church eyes, it is really up to the individual religions to decided if they will perform a marriage ceremony for a same sex couple
but do not forget even for couples of the opposite sex who marry in the church, that ceremony maybe binding upon the church doctrine but has no effect in regard to the state and county you still must go down to the county clerk office and get a certificate to be legal, just in some place the clerk will also issue that certificate to same sex couple

It's legal in the UK (as of end of 2005) and why not ??? Although it is called a civil partnership rather than a marriage. If someone wants to live with another person as their life partner choice and give them all the benefits that come with that such as next of kin rights why shouldn't they ? The only person I think anyone can really judge on who they themselves are sleeping with is the person they are shagging otherwise it's nothing to do with anyone else.
Not everyone is religious so some people dont care what the Church says. religion is so full of hipocrasy anyway. religion or perhaps the simple fact that there is different opinions and different religions are to blame for far more hurt, upset, wars etc in this world than someone who sleeps with someone of the same sex.
I am straight and although it may not be to my taste, a lot of the things some straight people do in bed wouldn't be either so who am I to judge ! And anyway I thought your sex life went right downhill after marriage so if you dont like people sleeping with others of the same sex maybe encouraging them to marry would reduce the amount of it going on lol !

Yes. It is legal in Belgium and Spain, and same-sex unions are recognized in many other countries.
In the US marriage is regulated by the state. However, such laws cannot infringe on federally protected rights. And even if it is illegal to get married in one state, sometimes that state will still recognize same-sex unions made legal in another state. The legality of same sex marriage on a state-by-state basis is a complex, controversial matter that is working itself out.
I assume by Church you mean the Catholic Church. The civil recognition of same sex marriage or union technically is separate from religious recognition of same.

In Canada and some European countries, and in the State of Massachusetts, it is.
Issues such as homosexual rights may split the worldwide Anglican (Episcopal) Church.
Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion as to whether same-sex marriage should be legal.

It is legal in Canada and several of the Major Churches support the issue as they realize it is not their place to judge, only God's.

It's gone to the supreme court here in Canada and is perfectly legal. The church has no say in our government and laws. If you are a justice of the peace here and perform marriages...it is illegal for you to refuse to marry a gay couple. (Not a clergyman, but a government appointed JP).

Even if it's legal in one state in the U.S., it will not be recognized in another state who doesn't make it law. So that means that if two of the same sex get married, they are pretty much limited to stay in that state.

Unfortunately it is. Along the same lines if gay marriage is legal why shouldn't polygamy or incest for that matter be legal - as long as all parties involved are consenting adults.
It's perverse, but traditional family values are being destroyed by our distorted views of political correctness.
