My best friend just found out she is pregnant...it was unexpected and we have been going out drinking...not very much but at least a couple of times. I'm scared that we may have hurt the baby...she obviously isnt drinking now or anything but what do you think the chances are of the baby being affected by a couple of drinks??

No, she doesn't need to worry! I got sloshed two nights before I found out (I didn't even miss my period yet, so I had no clue) and I talked to my OB about it and he said at that time in pregnancy if the alcohol would have affected the baby I would have miscarried. He said that there was no harm to the baby from that early on. The stress of her worrying about it is more tramatizing to the baby! So don't let her worry.

I have heard that it is okay to have a beer or glass of wine a night from my OB as well and it wont cause any issues with the baby. He said it is the heavy excessive drinking that causes the problems. I still don't drink though, I like to be on the side of caution!

Tell your friend congrats!

There is always a chance that something could have happened to the baby even with just one drink. But, my wife and I have a 4 month old son, and when she became pregnant, we did not now about it in the beginning and we went out a few times and drinks were had.

There are several schools of thought here. One being that no alcohol at all. Others being that an occasional drink is fine.

My wife went with the second as she would feel the "need" every now and then and when the urge hit, she had a beer.

Best advice is not to stress out to much about it. Things should be fine.

It happens quite often. Most women don't find out they are pregnant until they are 4-5 weeks along, but having a few drinks at that stage shouldn't affect the baby. This early in the pregnancy the sac has just developed and there is no heartbeat there yet, so you and your friend can relax. The baby will be fine.

If she's only had a few drinks a few times, the baby should be okay (the odds are in her/ its favour), especially if she has been eating well.

She should make sure she doesn't drink any more during the pregnancy, and eats more veggies, especially spinach. Eating spinach a couple of times a week in the early months (first 3 I think) is almost certain to prevent spinal bifida.

Also replace soft drinks and junk food with fruit juices and the like.

If she wasn't drinking much, the odds are that the baby will be fine...just no more drinking during the pregnancy.

I drank for the first two months of my pregancy (of course not knowing that I was pregnant), several times a week. My baby is fine - well, my "baby" is 35 y.o. Don't worry, have her see a doctor, and later on of course ultrasound and the other cool tests that I didn't have when I was pregnant.

many people do this. it relatively is rather person-friendly! eating at the same time as you're pregnant isn't the superb concept yet cutting-edge learn have shown that gentle eating can easily be good for the toddler. while medical doctors say do no longer drink at the same time as pregnant it relatively is purely by way of fact the being pregnant is the time the toddler is bobbing up and despite is going via you is going interior the direction of the toddler. it relatively is in all probability which you eating up till at last 9 weeks wont have performed plenty injury. many people do it by making use of accident and their toddlers are born completly healthful. i would not trouble too plenty yet once you nonetheless are worried then talk on your wellbeing care expert. i'm able to assure many people before you're starting to be long gone to them with an identical concern and that they're going to advise and reassure you.

Chances are that there are no problems. Think about how may women have been in a similar situation and have perfectly healthy babiesAnd years ago they didn't tell you to stop drinknig - just to cut down. As long as she stays away from drinking for the rest of her pregnancy the baby should be fine.

Not much from a few drinks. Everyone has alcohol in there systems at some levels. If you drink during pregnancy, it can cause allot of problems including dependency. But 1 or 2 drinks, shouldn't cause alarm and worries.

good luck

Depends upon how far along she is, and how much she drank--if she has only missed one period, and drank only moderately (a couple of beers) it will probably be allright.

I had my first baby in Germany--all the German women berated me because I didn't have one beer a day, preferably a dark beer--they believe the high iron content is good for the baby and they all drink it while pregnant--just one. But Europeans have a high tolerance for alcohol. I'm mostly native american and don't have genetic tolerance for alcohol that they do

I'm sure the baby will be fine...especially if it was not heavy drinking. This happens to many woman who don't know they are pregnant, but as long as the drinking stops, the baby should be fine!
