Looking back, he is now one of the most beloved presidents in US history. Do you think in 25 years, Bush will enjoy the same legacy.

I don't think he will be as popular as Reagan is today, but Bush will be remembered as the first president who had to deal with Islamic terrorism on American soil. He is criticized by many who did not have to do anything but wait and criticize. Hindsight is 20/20 and I think historians will be much kinder to Bush than the hard left, the news media, and those who hate him because they can't think for themselves and believe these leftist politicians and academics. Carter was another president who was hated when he was in office but did a lot of good before he became a spokesman for the hard left and has lost much respect again.

Heres the one thing that seperated Reagan from the rest his policy was he didnt care about the politics of an issue he did what was in the best interest of the people and he turned the nation around from the days of malaise that Carter had created. Thats how i remember him and he was beloved to me then and he is beloved to me now and no Bush will not have the same legacy because he could give a damn less about what the american people want.

Ronald Reagan was not competent to be President.

Reagan is merely loved because he was very witty and gave some very good speeches.

As a President Reagan was a disaster.

Reagan did not cure the economy by any stretch of the imagination

Reagan destroyed the alternative fuel programs that were in place when he was elected.

If we had the alternative fuels that they were developing at the time Reagan cancelled the programs we would not have the problems with the Middle East that we have today.

Bush will go down in history as the President who made the Middle East an unbelievable mess.

There is no chance that Bush will go from the most unpopular to one of the most beloved presidents in History. And if you studied your history books, you would find that many of the things that made Reagan unpopular are being repeated by Bush. For example, you would not go about fighting the high price of gasoline by starting a war in the Middle East.

No. Despite some level of animosity at the time, Reagan had some major successes and had a big role in winning the Cold War.

In order for Bush to be beloved in 25 years, his 'plan' in Iraq will need to pan out in his favor. Anything short of that will secure his position as one of the biggest failures in the history of the presidency.

edit: In terms of Bush's detractors being a vocal 'minority', maybe you can explain why his approval rating is in the 20's. That doesn't sound like a minority to me.

looking back, even Richard Nixon has gained some popularity. The regard we may have for any former president does not change the things that president did or didn't do. How history treats George W. Bush will depend on what transpires after he leaves office.

Umm Reagan is loved by conservatives. The man was a buffoon. And that is about it. Bush will never be loved. He has cost the nation too much.

Well, first of all...to those of us who suffered economically because of his policies (nothing has "trickled down" to me yet, 20 years later...) he is not beloved, but that is beside the point. He is beloved because he was A LOT better than the two republicans who have sat in his office since then (for many) And no matter who you are and how well you do in office, it is a given that approximately half of the country will hate you. I am sure that if Reagan allowed all the things this president did, he would be reviled by all in the political spectrum.

BTW....Voice Of Liberty is REALLY ascairt of socialism! (he mentions it an awful lot!)

George Bush is no Ronald Reagan. Reagan was instrumental in bringing an end to the Soviet Union thru the use of strategy, smarts, and forming strong diplomatic ties with other countries.....Bush has demonstarted none of these traits

Why to go Mike! And we wouldn't be in the Middle East today if it wasn't for Reagan and his friends wanting to get rich. If you read Jimmy Carter's energy policy speech, you'd be amazed at how visionary he was and how Reagan came in and deregulated all types of industries and let them go unchecked, many still are. Jimmy Carter had solar panels on the White House and Reagan took them down right away when he went to bed with oil interests in Saudi Arabia. Reagan lovers have no idea about what the South American wars were really about either. Some things make too much sense for some people to grasp, they'd rather be followers, even when they don't know what they are following.
