No No No
I know what it take to care for a live animal.
I did my research.
The only thing that scared me was the vet bills, cage prices, and the life span.

neatherland dwarf rabbit...
they weigh about 3lbs
almost never need to go to the vet (I've had hundreds of rabbits and never taken them to the vet)
they do like to be held
cages are realtively cheap, or you can litter box train like a cat and not need a cage
generally easy animals and they live for ~8 years

NOT a rat. Rats can really rack up vet bills (over 700 € in two years with mine)
Rats are NOT solitary - they need a cagemate or over 14 hours a day of attention, or else they get miserable.
An adult rat is NOT small. My Fudge is about 20 cm long (weighing 345 grams) not including the tail, and a male would be a LOT bigger. (30 cm long without the tail and upwards of 500 grams)
Rats get sick VERY easily - stress, poor cage cleaning habits on the part of the owner, drafts, can all cause a rat to get sick.
Ignore what those people who suggested rats said, please.

Do you really want a pet? It sounds like you don't. There is a lot of responsibility and commitment to taking care of another life. You should not take on this responsiblity unless you are fianacially and emotionally ready to do so. Anything else would be cruel to the animal.
And why do you want to carry a pet in a pouch? I cringe every time I see Paris Hilton carrying around the dog in a purse. That poor dog.

I'm with Barbara B - sounds like you're not ready for a pet. Pets are not accessories. They are living, breathing creatures who need attention, training, excercise and may occasionally get sick. Please don't get a pet just so you have something cute to carry around. Know what goes into the care and maintenance of an animal before you buy one.

You might try a cavy (guinea pig). I have had several - only used the vet one time. They are small, but larger than a hamster or gerbil. They do not climb out of their cages. I actually kept one in a plastic laundry basket when I didn't have a cage. You just clean their cages once a week. As far as handling them, they are initially scared, but with time they will get used to it. You will need to keep their nails trimmed.

A mouse. But they do get hot in the summer so you would have to run the air condition or put her in the basement.

You want a stuffed toy.
All pets carry maintenance - which can be costly.
Cuddly pets require time to make them cuddly.
Not all small pets are "cute"
All pets get sick and all pets eventually die.
No. You don't need a pet - you need a stuffed toy.
