Proportional representation usually means that nobody has overall power as no party will have more votes than the others combined

That then means that parties have to form alliances to get overall power and the alliances will be with undemocratically elected parties making the system undemocratic.

What then happens is that no party has a mandate to complete eanything and there is constant fighting and nothing ever gets done.

With an election, like any other race or competition, you need a clear winner.

The main advantage is that you do not get landed with what we have in the Scottish parliament . No one with overall control and inability to get their manifesto on to the statute book . This while the previous administration ( Lab/Lib pact) seem to have forgotten how long they had to get things right and just bitching from the side instead of at least trying to give the people a decent administration .
We already have WAY TOO much government ... UK , Europe . Scotland /Wales or Ireland) then all the local councils as well . No wonder unemployment has fallen and there are more jobs , they are all bloody politicians and we are the mugs paying to support them !!
With apologies to all readers for my rant of the day !!

the advantage is that you usually get a clear cut majority but the disadvantage is that often small groups never get proper representation. IN the UK the Liberals can get 20% of the electorate and only 5% or 10% of the MPs and if is possible to get a party with a majority of MPs in the house but less votes in the country than another party
