It has done nothing more than to divide the country rather than putting the differences aside to work something out to where both groups would be satisfied. Besides this Lib Vs Con stuff as well as Red states Vs Blue states is so played out & lame already.

I believe that almost nobody is familiar with the term united we stand, divided we fall.

America like it or not is in crisis. The dollar has been devalued, the housing market stinks and the majority of the international community has a bad taste in their mouth for the "American way", heck even Americans as stated have lost the ability to stand by their brethren.. Playing this petty little blame game and neglecting to focus on the real issues facing the nation are going to result in more strife, more obstacles and more poor decisions.

It is time for America as a nation to grow up and act like the strong leader it claims to be.

Whole liberal v. conservative, left v. right thing is an antiquated holdover from the French revolution and says absolutely nothing about a politician's actual views. Dr. Jerry Pournelle came up with a much better, quadratic description some years back and I suspect that could be refined even more. But people want things oversimplified so they can pretend to understand and the media doesn't have the time or the motivation to apply real science to political science and educate the audience. Besides, the oversimplified view makes media commentators sound like they know what they're talking about.

Ask five or six people who keep the Lib - Con thing going , what the definition of each is . You'll come up with more different explanations than you can count .
A test . In a mixed group , ask them to write down what a Liberal believes , and what a Conservative believes . Then see if they agree with the other guy's assessment . If the statements are close to true , all should agree .

We are all stuck in the middle watching the extremists cast everything possible as an issue between conservatives and liberals. Conflict sells so that is what gets reported. That is sad but it is also a fact of life. There is nothing in a positive meeting of the minds that is inherently interesting to a viewing public. On the other hand, calling someone names and deriding their positions as simplistic and beholden to some ideology is fun to watch.

Since our politics today get played out in the media, successful politicians have learned to use conflict as a way to stay in the public eye. This is disgusting and ultimately our fault since we have voted with our viewership (and consumption of printed media, and listening to radio). Here's hoping that we can understand our role in this mess and start supporting those who would seek to get beyond the labels and get something done.

I agree 100%. The current state of political affairs in this country is such that there is no rational debate anymore. No matter what side of the aisle it comes from, everything is boiled down to the lowest common denominator, which is attacking the other side. Imagine the progress we could achieve if we worked together to resolve differences rather than simply blasting each other with emotional and personal attacks. The name calling and "gotcha" politics played these days is enough to make me sick.

Yes! People like junglejo love this hatred stuff. They target anyone who disagrees with them. They repeat lie after lie after lie....until some dumbed down uneducated lazy non-thinker believes them. That's what politics has become. We all need to get back to learning the REAL history.......educate ourselves ..... re-read the Constitution, and follow it. These days, it's about who can get the best lawyer to put the best spin on laws.......instead of respecting the law of the land. Who would have thought that in this day and age, dictators would rule the US, pretending that spying on it's own citizens is OK, stealing elections, torturing, lying to start a catastrophic, global war, controlling the media, stealing $$$$$ from it's citizens could happen in this country? It's time to all get together, and re-educate these United States of America, and take our country back from the politicians !

I'm with ya totally. This division crap needs to go. There is way too much anger n discontent somethin's gotta give.Go back about 20 years.....things were a lot better then. Like esmereld said, find a common ground & build from there. A sad thing to mention, but after 911, look how the whole country pulled together...a horrible thing had to happen to wake us up. But, where did that getting along go??

It is a sad commentary on our society. We should be more actively finding our similairities and working to unite ourselves. Some day people will realize that both political parties we have are really one in the same and they work for corporations and themselves, not for us, they have only one agenda, the rest is just talk and is intended to divide and conquer us and it's working well don't you think??? The more we hate each other the less we will try to oust them. We need to get back to thinking instead of reacting to what we are being spoonfed by the media. Wake up people before it's too late! ( I had my Wheaties this AM!)

Been sick of it. I *try* to ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist, and take each person at face value. Despite often being outnumbered, I find this works quite well.

I'm a Republican and Abraham Lincoln is probably my favorite president, I often remember his "A house divided cannot stand" speech as a guide.

If you think this is bad, you haven't seen anything. At least it's easy to determine where a majority lies. Most other countries have at least 3-7 political parties, and things get REALLY messy.

There will always be two sides to the coin. It is how we deal with the situations to their best potential that should matter.

For example: A teenage girl gets raped and doesnt have the money to keep up a baby. Im a conservative and believe in pro-life, but in this situation, there is not much the girl can do so her best option would be abortion (although I hate to see it happen).

Like I said, its how we deal with it that matters.
