David Copperfield, the world renown illusionist's, warehouse was raided by the FBI yesterday and over $2 million in cash was found. Several years back, Mr. Copperfield made the Statute of Liberty disappear. Do you think he can make this problem disappear?

Doubtful. Why does he have $2 million in cash in a warehouse? Seems odd to me.

So far, it appears as though a woman from Seattle is accusing him on sexual assault stemming from a visit she made to one of Copperfield's private islands in the Bahamas. This seems a little suspect considering it was months ago, and wasn't in this country. Does the FBI then have authority to get warrants for his property here because of an allegation that took place out of the country? Should be interesting to see how it all plays out.

However much the fascisti want you to believe otherwise, it is not illegal to keep large amounts of cash. There is no law that requires one to deposit money in an account somewhere. There IS a law requiring any transaction over $10,000 to be reported to the Fed, but other than that, no law has been broken.

They can try to show that the money was somehow gotten by illegal means but, failing that, there is no problem here to be made to disappear. They will, of course, try since that allows them to sieze the money as "evidence." Said "evidence" will earn interest for them as they "investigate" and that could take quite some time. Civil forfeiture laws (which are a scar on the face of a free society) allow the cops to do this and there's nothing anyone can do about it. He may not ever see the money again even if no crime has been proven.

A link to the story would be helpful.

Here is one: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/10/19/america/NA-GEN-US-David-Copperfield-FBI.php

Since it appears they did not arrest Copperfield, he may not have to worry about that. Getting the money back may take time however.

A bit odd, keeping money in a warehouse like that though.

I think his problems are going to be a lot more complicated than just the sexual assault.

If the FBI raided his warehouse, it had to have been something else.

I doubt he's going to be able to avoid indictment if he was raided by the feds. I'm sure they had a good reason to be there.

Only time will tell.

Allegations of rape...thats ridiculous. A person who dates Claudia Shiffer does not do that.

Maybe he was hiding the money to hide from another great deppresion...lol

Its probably just some women who needs to get off of the couch and get a job.

Im with David all the way on this one.

Thing is once someone well known is charged with rape that stigma never leaves them true or not. But honestly who trusts their money with a bank, I find it odd the FBI needs to take the money given that its a rape investigation.

Heh heh heh... punny.

He's crazy. He said when he was little he could make the curtains move with his mind.

Magic is not real. Its smoke, mirrors, and the power of suggestion. I think people need to realize that.

Yes, it's really strange. Usually the only time they seize a computer is when child pornography is involved. Imagine that !
