Don't me wrong, getting gifts, festive feasts, and goodies is nice, however it's Jesus Christ's birthday and we are supposed think of him on this day.
By thinking him, I mean thinking about the needy, who are less fortunate, especially smal children by donating some money, whatever amount you can spare to the Salvation Army, and also enjoy your Christmas.
Some people just don't care. They just want to grab all the most expensive items at the cheapest prices on Christmas instead of thinking of Jesus, being with their families, having donated some money to Salvation Army, even buying a gift for a needy child and giving to the Salvation Army to give out to the child on Christmas morning.
I'm not saying donate a large sum of money to the church, personally I think the churches expecting people to donate 10% of their annual earnings to the church is outragous!

Christmas is what you make it. It doesn't bother me that Christmas is commercialized. I'm not religious at all but I do celebrate it as a religious holiday since that is how I was raised. And I always look forward to both giving gifts for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree and volunteering at it, because even though my family had money, I was treated like a pauper as a kid and I don't want other kids to go through that at the holidays. But I don't do those things just to say "look at how good I am or how much money I have".

I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN - but i enjoy xmas and so do alot of people and religions..anyway i dont do the religous side of xmas in some way i enjoy the commercial side of it all.
To me xmas is time off work seeing friends and family having a few drinks etc, relaxing and enjoying the hustle and bustle of it all the tv is good..good movies and everybody you see around is in spirits and having good times.
99% of the people i know are not religous but celebrate xmas in many ways just time to be with family and friends etc and you cant really say only christians celebrate and enjoy xmas cos then most of the world wouldnt have xmas
Another quick thing...the real day to open presents etc is 6th January cos thats when the three kings arrived with the presents for jesus christ.. something like that anyway

I totally agrre with you on that one...i want to share a message with you as well...when i first read it i thought it was touching true.....that's the sad thing about it it really has become a relaity and lots of persons forget that Christmas is really the celebration of Jesus' Birthday.....
Well here it is it is called Mary's Dream....
Mary's Dream
I had a dream, Joseph, I don't understand it, not really, but I think it was about a birthday celebration for our Son. I think that was what it was all about. The people had been preparing for it for about six weeks. They had decorated the house and bought new clothes. They'd gone shopping many times and bought elaborate gifts. It was peculiar, though, because the presents weren't for our Son.
They wrapped them in beautiful paper and tied them with lovely bows and stacked them under a tree. Yes, a tree, Joseph, right in their house. They'd decorated the tree also. The branches were full of glowing balls and sparkling ornaments. There was a figure on the top of the tree. It looked like an angel might look. Oh, it was beautiful.
Everyone was laughing and happy. They were all excited about the gifts. They gave the gifts to each other, Joseph, not to our Son. I don't think they even knew Him. They never mentioned His name. Doesn't it seem odd for people to go to all that trouble to celebrate someone's birthday if they don't know Him?
I had the strangest feeling that if our Son had gone to this celebration He would have been intruding. Everything was so beautiful, Joseph, and everyone so full of cheer, but it made me want to cry. How sad for Jesus -not to be wanted at His own birthday celebration.
I'm glad it was only a dream. How terrible, Joseph, if it had been real.
Thanks...Smile and feel Wonderful...God Bless you!

Another way of looking at it may be this; the "comercialization of Christmas" gives a boost to our economy.
This creates jobs which means that unemployment will be lower, fewer people will be in poverty, fewer people will be hungry, and more people will be able to provide for their families.
In addition, those who have these jobs will be able to have the funds and resources to help others. Notice Ephesians 4:28, "Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth."
Did you notice, you work that you may have to give!
Yes the comercialization of the Christmas season feeds on greed, covetousness, and the accumilation of more than most people need, but it also accomplishes much good! Many hard working people would loose their livelyhood if it weren't for this boost to the economy.
You can concentrate on how material our nation has become, or you can look at it and be thankful that we are so blessed! I would rather focus on this as a sign of our many, many blessings, and focus my mind on thankfulness!
