I think that our country has shifted to a more Liberal ideology than we have ever had before. I think that our Liberals from yesterday are now our extremists, our Democrats are now our Liberals, our Republicans are Democrats, and the Conservatives are considered to be a "true" Republican. What do you think? Please be respectful. Thank you!

If America wasn't more Liberal, would the issue of Gay marriage/civil unions be talked in the government? If America was more Conservative, I would think the civil unions would be dismissed because of religious reasons. Just sounding out a theory, thanks for your opinions everyone.

With all due respect; I think our political parties have no bloody clue. Our elected officials represent only the highest bidder (corporate lobbyists) rather than “we the people”.

I believe that if not for the polarization of the two political parties in America today, we’d be much better off. Most people want the same thing out of life, freedom to live their own life as they see fit, not as someone else thinks they should live.

I think we need at least two more parties to offer some balance to our election process. We need to place caps on spending during political campaigns and we need to set strict term limits. Then – maybe then, we can bring this great nation back together as a force that is unstoppable, weather it is militarily, or economically.

People aren't really any more liberal, but people are fed up with the extreme right so much that as a backlash, they're swinging to the other extreme in an attempt to undo the immense damage that's been done. The problem is that the other extreme isn't any better.
I think the time is ripe for a third party that will speak common sense... a sort of best of both parties if you will. I think they would represent most of America. We can have the Republicans, the Democrats and the Humanitarians.

I find most of the conservative bloggers and talk show folks to be quite radical and far, far from the right. The current administration, in the Reagan tradition is more liberal, as in spending and taxing, then the Democrats have ever been. The parties actually have flipped many times in our history. You have to go past the rhetoric and look at what each side really does and votes for to get a true picture of their ideologies.

I am for the two party system, in fact if more were to be better represented I would support that as well. Having two opposing sides to an issue is what keeps us debating over the proper center. This country is so big that one medication does not fit all. The farmland, rural, and city each have their own needs. We need more local government to address those issues instead of a federal government to dictate what one environment must give up to pacify the other one or two. This "US AND THEM" has to stop and identify how do you address issues that end up with "WE" as a result.

Nope - the Republicans are ALL Republicans. Deal with it, as the planks of that party support what has been done by them. The fact that war spending increased the debt in no way makes them part of some other party.

Democrats are moderates, since the Rove inspired redefinition of Leftists has driven them all away from the far left.

The Clintons are quite business-friendly, you know. Deregulation and cuts to social spending were made during the last Clinton term.

You don't say what country you are in. I assume it is the US. You have mixed political philosophies with political parties.
I disagree with your assessment. The US is on the average way more conservative than liberal. The liberals flock to government, the main stream media, and academia. So you may be getting over-dosed on political philosophy without realizing it.
