Never in the history of this country have we been so divided on issues, according to the pollsters............
In trying to get accurate data, I find:
1. 'Cost' of Iraq war to date = 462 billion dollars.(weapons/military manpower/rebuilding projects)
2. Cost of continuing war is about 8 billion a year (sure to go higher in future budget requests)
3. TRUE 'cost' , MUST include:
* military manpower expansions over next decade- 20 billion
*add'l recruiting incentives needed in volunteer army- 5 billion
* deaths& THOUSANDS OF CASUALITIES NEGLECTED IN THE 'COUNT' THAT ARE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, SPINAL INJURY, LIMB DAMAGE INCLUDING HEALTH CARE, DISABILITY AND LOST WAGES -40 billion
* invisible costs of treating a whole generation of PTSD vets and broken families, suicides, drug and alcohol rehabs- 10 billion
if we stay 10 years in Iraq ( ignore the permanent military bases folks) - it will be at least 3 TRILLION DOLLARS in costs to stay and treat our victims of war , free to neglect THEIR victims or war.....
one site below
The Congressional Budget Office (COB) released its accounting for the “War on Terror” last month, revealing that more than $450 billion has been spent to date, with more than 70 percent of those funds being spent on the war in Iraq. That figure is expected to reach more than $600 billion by the end of this year.
According to the same report, the total cost for the war is now estimated at between $1.2 trillion and $1.7 trillion, depending on how quickly troops are withdrawn from Iraq.
Please consider:
1. We pre-emptively attacked a country we had blocked north and south with no -fly zones.
2. They have no missile delivery system to harm us, they can barely get a scud to Israel inaccurately.
3. The 911 hijackers were SAUDI'S
4. we BACKED HUSSEIN IN THE IRAN/IRAQ WAR
5. we trained Iraqi pilots at the base I was stationed on in the 70's.
6. hussein was an evil dictator, lots of evil dictators in the world we ignore and even support (difference? they weren't sitting atop largest oil fields in the world).
7. the real issue may have been oil rights as it is commonly reported that hussein had divided up oil drilling rights to china, russia and france IF and when the UN sanctions were lifted!
8. one insider book reported that the war hawks of the DOD wanted to take oil wells in Iraq and pump till it broke the back of the OPEC monopoly with cheap supply flowing to 10 dollar a barrel, till the state department, cheney and the big oil friends put a halt to that idea ( big oil has power and likes record profits)and left us holding the bag in confusion of the next step, interesting opinion
9. Americans will gladly pay large sums to weapons , in this case , if you break it down it would read,
"Would you prefer $ 800 of your tax dollars going to the poor, needy, children, elderly, mentalliy ill or retarded needing care OR would you rather pay 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR EVERY WAGE EARNER IN THIS COUNTRY ( 3 TRILLION divided by 150 million workers = 20 thousand dollars!!!!!!!!!!!
10. Its so absurd and sad, we lost the enemy when the soviet union fell and the weapons manufacturer's and high technology NEEDED A FEAR REPLACEMENT, finally they got their wish and keep the world juiced in fear as we sell one third of the world's weapons and continue to rabble rouse in the middle east, "hey, its good for business".
We should be ashamed of the damage we are doing to our servicemen and woman and our country and the Iraqi peoples...........

I should hope to heck you do remember the Repubs in '08 for attempting to stop the expansion of yet another SOCIALIST program the federal government has no business being in...
Only LIBTARD leeches can see ANY upsides to a program that steals from the productive so politicos like Pelosi can pander to the parasitic...
Note the following from the CBO: "CBO estimates that the other 34 percent of the children who would gain SCHIP or Medicaid coverage under the bill otherwise would have some type of private insurance"

Just because it sounds good doesn't mean it is. Playing the numbers game is silly, I could easily say all the money we send over to foreign countries in form of health care should be stopped and that would pay for your socialized health care program.

I find it amazing that Bush is willing to pay billions to kill our troops in a pointless "war", but doesn't want to pay to keep our children healthy. I bet his family has great healthcare, and there is the key. Bush cares only about himself and what HE wants, even if the ends don't justify the means. I think the Repubs should be very worried in '08. America is fed up.

The "kids" are already covered under the current plan. This is a liberal trick to expand their gov't sponsored health care program. The same program Americans rejected when Hitlary tried to initiate in 1994.
Liberals say this is for "poor kids". But the plan expands to include families that make $60k-$120k per year, depending on which state you live in.
Also, it would allow illegals to get on the program with a phony social security number.
For once, Bush did something right.

I find it odd that the Republicans love borrowing and spending hundreds of billion of dollars on a endless war with no victory plan....
......yet reject spending a tiny fraction of that amount of American kids.
The priorities of the GOP is insane, and unAmerican.
