A gay person is more likely to have come from a divorced home raised by their mother than to have any family members in the family tree who are gay.
To say it's the way you are born relieves the person from taking personal responsibility for their actions.

I definitely think they're born with it. To be sexually attracted to the opposite sex is the most natural and basic trait there is for most people. Our very existence depends on it, and it's something we can't control (especially sexual arousal). Which is why I believe being attracted to the same sex is such an extreme difference that there's no way this can be acquired or subject to influences. Influential factors can only bring to light NATURAL feelings that may have been lying dormant. I've also worked with several gay men that tell me they've always had those feelings deep down inside, before they were even old enough to be subjected to outside influences. This is exactly why I've never had a problem with they're way of life or them getting the same rights afforded to other couples, because you can't control who you love.

There's no proof whether it is inborn or acquired. Speaking from personal experience, I've always known in my heart that I'm gay. Always been aware of this odd desire and attraction towards the same sex and never for the opposite. This happened even before I had other gay friends or even before my first sexual encounter. To this date, I've never been with a female nor have any desire to be intimate with one. Tendency is to believe that I was born gay.

Born with a disposition towards alchoholism? Sounds like a Rush Limbaugh type reasoning to me. I believe (only because you asked :)) that to believe homosexual tendencies are acquired after birth you must then also believe heterosexual tendencies are acquired after birth. But what if these "tendencies" were not acquired? What if it were not a natural process? Then we'd be population 0 pretty quickly. Not that homosexuality helps reproduce, but do we really have a need for more human beings on this shitty *** planet? More little right wing christian kids people can raise to tie Matthew Shepards to fence posts and beat them to death? Think about it.

I DON'T believe that people that are homosexual acquire that, its just natural.
For example, when a person who is straight did NOT acquire feelings of the opposite sex, they just attracted to the opposite sex. Same with people that are homosexual. I say that its natural to have affectionate feelings for both either the same or opposite sex.
And questions about our feelings for the same sex comes when in society, its not "normal" but I say that its normal.
You do NOT choose your orientation but you can chose ignorance and hate toward people of that orientation.

I think that people are born that way. Who in there right mind would choose to live with all the hate that is turned toward a gay person. I am like you. I am Bi and have been for as long as I can remember.

This is a question of cognitive process....think about it for a moment.
Who would CHOOSE to be hated, harassed, denied basic human dignity, bullied, beaten, disowned and in many unfortunate circumstances...MURDERED for who they love?
Please, you can choose to live HONESTLY or choose to live a lie, but you can't choose who you're attracted to.
You can choose to dye your hair, but you don't get to choose what color it comes out of your head.
Sure a person can choose what behavior they display, but they cannot choose what orientation they have.
If it has to do with environment, then everyone in the same environment would all be the same way. A child molested would always grow up to be gay. A child with a distant father figure would always grow up to be gay. A child with an over bearing or abusive mother would always grow up to be gay.
Well, since none of these are true, it is NOT environmental.
I was raised with a Stay-at-home mom, a commuter Dad, lived in a predominantly white suburb of Chicago, my parents didn't through wild sex parties or introduce sexual subjects to my brother or I growing up. We weren't molested or neglected. We didn't know any gays or lesbians growing up. My brother turned out to be straight and I'm gay.
I had ALWAYS had crushes on other girls growing up. Why? Certainly not from my environment.
No, a person might Aquire the Knowledge of what Homosexuality IS as they mature, but they do NOT aquire BEING homosexual, they simply learn to label what comes naturally to them.

I heard a very good response to this (I forgot who said it) and that is: "Once we find out how heterosexuality originated, we will find the answer to the origin of homosexuality as well." I haven't heard anyone ask "how did you become straight?" because it is ASSUMED to be the NORM. If we parlay that to the race equation, that's analagous to asking "Why are you white?" because the assumption is whites (especially straight white men) have more power than any other group in the race debate. So I guess if I'm paraphrasing that smart answer, it would be "when we find out why you're white, I'll find out why I'm black/yellow/red/brown..." just something to mull over...

I think it is some of both. I don't doubt that there is/could be some amount of predisposition, or even in some cases we are just born with it, but I also think the choices we make throught life steer us in a direction.

It may be different for everyone. My aunt's friend is an old gay man. Then a guy came to his house saying that he is his son. It turns out to be so. At first, we thought he was a man.It turns out he's gay too. So how can this old guy influenced his long lost son about being gay? Anyway, one of our neighbors is gay. He is the only one who hasn't got a family. Two of his brother each has a gay son. They thought that it's cool to be gay. One of them is now in his teens and gay while the other is still in elementary but is gay. My little nephew whom my cousin brought up dressing like a girl because it's funny has some tendencies of being gay. I said that because he likes to play with barbies and dolls more than cars and other boy stuff.
So for me it's different. My friend, who is gay, is the only one in his family consisting of more boys than girls.

I believe that the vast majority of human beings are born with their sexuality. I also believe it would be wonderful for folks to click on the DISCOVER icon at the top right and look to see if the question has been asked before. No offense intended to you but this may well be the most asked question on YA.
