I think it's odd that with more than a year left to go, he's quietly communicating with the person he thinks will be the next President.

This is traditional for a President in the last weeks of an administration, not the last year.

To clarify my question, why is he communicating now, rather than waiting until the weeks before the new President steps in? It is traditional for Presidents to talk to each other just before the change in administration, a time during which an outgoing President tells an incoming one what he'she thinks should be done--despite any major ideological differences.

Read the story again. Bush is advising all candidates to soften their rhetoric on the Iraq war because it will be a different matter for them when and if they get to the White House. The advice is to not get locked into a position one cannot actually follow.

1.I am not sure I buy that, I have never heard of this newspaper and 2. there are a boat load of conspiracy theories out there, one of which goes something like, the fix is in has been since Bush Sr. the deal was Bush Sr, then BJ Clinton, then Bush Jr., then Her thighness Hitlery Clinton. Nah, I am not really going to put much stock in that. But on the other hand nothing our government does would surprise me. We need to clean house with the exception of a very few.

in the beginning, greater terrorist assaults have been planned and greater people have died as a results of terrorism under Bush, then under Clinton. back whilst Clinton have been president, Republicans have been watering down his anti-terrorism costs as a results of fact they did no longer want "a police state." whilst Clinton tried to kill Osama, they performed the wag the canine sport. quite of status at the back of him, they mentioned he became into merely attempting to alter the subject faraway from the BJ. whilst blackhawk went down, Republicans voted alongside with Democrats to take the troops out. The war Powers Act gave congress the skill to try this. Repubs won't be in a position to try this and then criticize Democrats for no longer doing sufficient. Bush, on the different hand, surpassed over terrorism for months whilst possibly he might have accomplished something. it extremely is in accordance to Richard Clark, govt' anti-terrorism professional on condition that Reagan.

I think its very interesting. I think it shows that Bush has little confidence that his party can win in the next election and that he thinks that Hillary is electable and the Democrats are likely to win the election. It also shows that he probably strongly believes that he knows the best way to conduct the war and wants to try to influence the next President's policy.

Or....maybe the Bushes and the Clintons cut a deal so that GWB could be President and Hillary could be President after that.

I read he is speaking to "candidates" and the article included Obama. Sure. He needs to give the rookie Democrats all the help he can muster. God forbid one of them has to represent us in these times of world wide unrest!

Doubtful he needs to talk to John McCain at all !!!
