Formal schooling is not necessarily the only road towards education. It is, in most countries required by law up to a certain age. There is a wide variety of school choices, depending on where one lives. Certain core subjects are necessary for getting a diploma which is required for most jobs. There is a lot to learn all over, even in school. school itself makes the learning process a bit more organized and effective. It would, for instance be quite challenging to learn to read and to speak, or write on one's own.
