I suppose the larger picture is what will happen to our country if we get another administration like the one we have. The vow of the current GOP is to 'reduce the size of the federal government until it can be drowned in a bathtub'. Destroying any vestige of the myth that the 'government is the people', a massive power vaccum will result....a vaccum soundly filled by tran-national corporations and a 'small' government dedicated to protecting those corporations at all costs. Can you say 'Fascisti'? Like it or not (and who does?) taxes are what support the social and physical infrastructure of a first world country. The SCHIP issue is only one tip of a very nasty iceburg heading toward the American wage-earner. At one time the leaders of our country said, 'millions for defense, not one cent for tribute'. Now it's trillions for war and not one cent for anything else. Am I the only one who hears the sound of goose steps?

The current version will be passed again - but some cuts will have to be made in PeachCare or the state will have to increase it's share of costs, since health costs have risen in the time since the last bill - and the modest increase WAS needed to offset that.

PeachCare is the Georgia health plan for kids. It's very successful and it works!
Georgia is a very progressive state, and PeachCare is something the entire state can be proud of. The plan benefits millions of kids.
If the plan is shut down, untold thousands will lose health insurance, and could be a disaster for many families.

Bush asked for an extension while they negotiate the bill. They refused to "dial him in". Meanwhile, rest assured nothing will happen as Congress is just playing Politics and will carry over anything required to maintain current standards. The whoopla is all about a media push to alter the President's views here. He already sent in teams to knock out a compromise. Much like the Turkey/genocide wrangling. Nancy Pelosi is nuts and politics rears it's ugly head. As the propaganda spins! thanks.

Actually it wasn't SCHIP re-authorization, it was SCHIP expansion. Re-authorization with a smaller expansion was proposed by Bush in February and could easily pass and would be signed. Congressional Democrats decided to use children as political pawns instead of reauthorizing the program...........
