Yesterday the House voted to override the President's shameful veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and fell short by 10 Republican obstructionist votes.

President Bush and the Rubber Stamp Republicans in Congress will be haunted by vetoing legislation for 10 million children. They will be haunted for as long as they are in office or as long as they continue to resist giving health insurance to millions of America's children.
This is an all-too-familiar pattern in Washington these days. Once again, Democrats are offering the American people hope and progress, while a stubborn President and his obstructionist Republican friends in Congress respond with roadblocks.
This is the third time when the only thing blocking meaningful change that Americans overwhelming support was George Bush's veto pen and obstructionist Republicans to back him up

The only good thing about the veto is that Republican's are going to be served their heads on a plate.
Come November '08 Americans will not forget.

In time those people are all going to have to get jobs in other industries. That or drag all of us down with them. The government has basically taken over GM and Chrysler, robbing investors and lenders of money they thought was theirs. What is worse than the temporary unemployment these people will face is the permanent loss of wealth by millions more who will be propping up jobs that no longer produce wealth. I would rather take those millions of unemployed auto workers and re-train them on new skills. That and move them out of states where the economy is faltering due to bad government. The solution is to let the market work. If auto manufacturing is no longer profitable that is nature letting us know we need to be doing something else.

That's garbage, are the children the issue or is beating the President the issue? If children are the issue then EVERY one of them (both sides) needs to return to their district and identify every one of the children currently covered by the SCHIPs program or Medicare and enroll them. After we have 100% of the really poor children of this country enrolled should we then concentrait on changing the current program.

nope, I'm not letting you get away with that one.

Since when should the people of the US be made to ay for insurance for a family making $60,000? I make less than that, and I don't want a hand out from the government.

Besides of all the "poster kids" the Lib's trotted out, NOT ONE of them will be ineligible for the SCHIP programs in their states, NOT ONE!

So, cry a river somewhere else, Skippy. It's not gonna fly here.

gee ... the Reps offered a 5 billion dollar expansion of the program

i guess that isn't enough for the Democrats though, who want to make a family with income of 83k a year in NY eligible for this free benefit.

it sure would be ironic for a family making 40k a year in Iowa to subsidize a family making twice their income in NY, now wouldn't it?

Btw, did you notice in the recent UAW/auto industry talks that the union wage is about $27.50 an hour? Last I checked, that runs to about 55k per year, plus overtime if any is worked.

ah -- here we go -- government benefits for union workers. That's the real Democratic agenda. :-)

Wow the 3rd veto in almost 7 years, what a tyrant. It was a bad Bill that was only pushed by the Democrats for political reasons. Congressional Democrats continue to use the poor, aged and young as political tools. I find this practice disgusting........

the Dem's tacked on add'l spending to this bill that would include ppl who make 83K a year and can or have insurance and would have encouraged them to drop their insurance and let the government foot the bill for them. it was a bad bill with those attachments and the Dem's knew it. rest assured this was done with a purpose, to try and make the president look uncaring. he cares! also, they are the ones who chide him for the deficit, yet expand the deficit if they can. read the bill, then make your statements again if you think it really does apply. it was neither hope, nor progress.

I think it's sad that American Children, who have no ability to decide into which family they're born, whether their parents are homeless, or just lazy and won't work.... Children should have healthcare. If he doesn't like that specific plan, let's have Bush put forth a solution. Let's get all children the healthcare they need.
You can't go to an ER for long-term diseases and sicknesses.

No more than welfare wielding Democrats are haunted by stripping generations of Americans of their right to become productive, self-sufficient, empowered citizens in the greatest land of opportunity on the planet.

It's amazing that the tobacco users are more supported by the Rubber stamp Republicans, yet they will ultimately be more costly in the end than preventative medicine for children.
