I was on it and it froze, so I attempted to turn it off because I couldn't do anything. I pressed the button and the screen went black, but all the little lights on it are still on, including the one that shows that it's running on the battery, meaning it definetly is still on.
If I hold down the power button, it either or beeps or the cd drive will light up, but that's it. The screen remains completely black no matter what I do.
I did notice before it froze that it was running off the battery, even though I had the power cord plugged in.
Ahhh what's wrong with it :(

If you hold down the power button for about 4 s or so it should turn the computer off no matter what (that's a designed in failsafe).

If that doesn't work unplugging it from the wall and taking the battery out should do the job.

Though if it were running off the battery while you had it plugged in I'd say there could be something wrong somewhere, possibly you've not actually plugged it in or maybe there's something with the socket you've plugged it in (if you're laptop has a light to indicate that it is plugged into the wall check to see whether that's on).

Alternatively you could have a bad adapter or something wrong with the DC input hardware in your laptop.

If after forcing it to turn off by cutting the power you continue to have trouble sending it in for repair might be needed (if it's not under warranty expect to pay a lot though).

Your computer is in trouble.

Start by taking the battery out with the cord also out in order to make it shut down.

Then, run corrective software, anti-spyware, defrag it, even run chkdsk in DOS in order to make it run more efficiently.

Boot it from the 'OFF' position a few times in order to get clear that your problem is resolved.

Good luck!
