My hard disk is split into two - h:/ for program files and c:/ for the operating system.

I want to change the ratio slightly so that there is more space on the c: drive, but I can't do it from Disk Management, and somebody told me that I can't do it at all without reformatting.

If I did, can I format the c:/ part of the drive without harming the contents of h:/ ?

you cant change the size of the current partitions with out formattiing and creating different partition when you do a fresh install,
you can format the C drive by right clicking and selecting format, be warned this will remove ALL data from that drive. why are your drives C and H? not C and D?

if you do anything with patition you have to format the partition anyway, before you can use it

so i suggest

ghost an image of c drive and burn and verify it
ghost an image of h drive and burn and verify it

partition c drive as a primary drive of x size
partition h drive as an extended drive
format both drives as ntfs
load in the images

all norton ghost stuff

dont trust partition magic. It has a habit of bombing out
if you use partition magic, make sure you have the images as backup.

yes you can repartition the harddrive using softwares like " Partition manager " which can partition your harddrive without deleting the files on it. By this you can change the ratio of the partitioned space.Dont go for disk manager as it will delete the contents of the harddrive also.

Why don't you just backup the important files on both drives on DVDs or anything. So, you can format the drive without any problems.

Isn't it? huh?
