In the past I purchased "polished brass" exterior door lock sets and also wall mounted porch lights for my main entrance to the house. I even spent the extra money to hopefully buy a good quality product. Unfortunatly, because of the outside elements. sun, humidity etc. the finish on these items no longer look like brass! A nasty look in fact. Okay...now I am replacing all this and I would like to go to a different look, say brushed nickel or such. Should the brushed nickel hold up to the elements better??

I do live way down South so the humidity and heat is a problem. Any recommendations??

Thanks

I live in FL and I get WET if I walk too far South.

Certainly sounds like you got Plated; over steel; as is common.

Solid alloys will be more pricey but certainly hold up better; Pewter and Brass work well. In any case in all shopping; ask, or check for the word "Plated". If you see that; don't buy.

High quality door furniture does'nt come cheap. Look at No10 Downing Street, or prestiguous properties. You have to spend big money to achieve the real look.
The internet is a good place to start.
