i am a former police officer and yes the battle is lost.
becase the police have no power .crime detection is up because only easy detectable crime is actually investigated such as assaults ,motoring offences drink related crime ect . you try to get a beat bobby to investigate something that will take more than 1 shift and it wont happen and you will be fobbed off with a crime number.
Its not the beat booby's fault becase there are so few of them theres too much work , theres paper work for the sake of it that stops them doing there job . Basically we need more police officers with real powers and we need to stick two fingers up at the do gooders to this get this sorted . but theres no quick fix

Losing ?
We've already lost the battle against crime !
Just look at the headlines AGAIN last night..another young boy shot dead in Yorkshire......does that sound like we are winning ?
I'm sorry but we need to go right back to basics and learn from the past....as to why our young people did not behave this way years ago...and what was so different !
I say the only way at this moment would be to bring National Service back....as Prison is obviously NOT working..and is neither a deterrent ..and its no good saying give them longer sentences..as that doesn't work either as they just come out worse than ever..having learned NOTHING !
Maybe if they had to do Full National Service it would not only teach them discipline..but they would come out much better people having not only learned a trade, but contributed wholly to our society !
BUT..while ever we listen to the do gooders and all the PC rubbish they come out with....the only place we are heading for is PURE ANARCHY !
That's if we're not already there yet !
AND to the Offenders of Gun Crime..I would send them ALL out to Iraq or Afghanistan and say...."Now if you want to play with guns..lets see how you cope with the big boys who know what a real gun is"...and leave them there for 12 months in the thick of the fighting.....lets see what their really made of !

We've lost the battles and the war. We may as well just scrap any pretence of law and go back to the dark ages ideal of everyone look after themselves. Get a few decent weapons and fortify your home with whatever you can. Maybe that way we will be safe from the scum and chavs that roam the streets.

It would help if they had room in the prisons to lock them up!
Also if the law changed so the victum has support if a guy comes into my house and i get sued for smashing a pan over his head that would be very unfair but it happens!
The list is endless could go on forever but (exculding rape and domestic abuse) most crime is cracked down upon hell you need to be dying before the police count it as a crime and help you but i think the media likes to blow the crime figures out of poportion or thats what i like to think in my happy bubble land.

There are none. Israeli politicians are only out for their own self-interests and this perspective is not appropriate at the negotiation table. Palestinian politicians are the same. I only trust myself to do the "right" thing. A few years ago, my Palestinian friends and myself got together and discussed the possibiltiy of peace. We came to the conclusion that if we were the heads of our perspective governments, peace would have been accomplished many years ago. Is it just a coincidence that this "war" was started so close to Israeli elections? I don't believe so. Also, I do appreciate you taking a more moderate tone in your participation instead of your usual Jew bashing rhetoric.

In my view yes,What we need to do is send in a trojan horse. The police force is under staffed and equipped. We need to create a trojan horse for example Chris Brunstrum wants to decriminalise drugs, that would bring out out the dealers,a bit of monitoring here and there and you would have your key players, change the law and then take them out.And what law abiding citizen would go about breaking the law and take drugs. We cant change the way the wind blows but we can trim the sails.

No, we are losing the battle against the media whipping-up the publiuc into a frenzy.
Crime is falling. I remember in the 70s that kids had knives and causing people problems. Then in went out of the media so people thought it went away, now its back in so people think its bad again.
From source below:
TREND FROM 1997 (1998 BCS) TO 2006/07 (YEAR ENDING MARCH 2007)
All crime as measured by the BCS down 32%.
Burglary down 55% (statistically significant fall).
All vehicle thefts down 52% (statistically significant fall).
All household offences down 33% (statistically significant fall).
All BCS violence down 31% (statistically significant fall).
All personal offences down 32% (statistically significant fall).
