3/(x+1)-1/2=1/(3x+3)
=> 3/(x+1) -1/(3x+3) = 1/2
=> 3/(x+1) -1/3(x+1) = 1/2
=> (3 - 1/3) / (x + 1) = 1/2
=> (8/3) / (x + 1) = 1/2
=> x + 1 = (8/3) x 2
=> x = 16 / 3 - 1
=> x = 13/3

The first answer is right, of course!
This may be an easier way to see the answer:

3/(x + 1) - 1/2 = 1/(3x + 3)

3/(x + 1) - 1/[3(x + 1)] = 1/2

3 - 1/3 = (x + 1)/2
[i.e., you've multiplied all terms in the equation by (x + 1)]

6 - 2/3 = (x + 1)
[now you've multiplied all terms in the equation by 2]

6 - 2/3 -1 = x
[all that is left is to combine your terms]

(18 - 2 - 3)/3 = x

(18 - 5)/3 = x

13/3 = x

3 / (x + 1) - 1 / 2 = 1 / [ 3 (x + 1) ]
X by 6 (x + 1) :-
18 - (3)(x + 1) = 2
18 - 3x - 3 = 2
13 = 3x
x = 13 / 3

3/(x+1)-1/3(x+1)= 1/2
8/3(x+1)=1/2
8/(x+1)=3/2
16=3x+3
13=3x
x=13/3
